I did know to keep from breathing the dust, Thanks! And the rock-cutting/polishing equipment I have works wet anyway. So, these are the two I've done so far. They're totally pink/purple/iridescent, no green or whatever at all unless the light is just right... In most lights, though they're pink. Whaddayall think?

Hey, that's my first one ever! I like it too! The pinks and purples are great and I got the back side sanded down to the nacre in most places, so it looks like pearl on one side, and abalone on the other! Now I'm beginning to understand my father's interest in lapidary arts. It's almost hypnotising to get them sanded and curved just so. Now I gotta find some dop wax and some dop sticks so I can keep my fingers outta the way!!! compliments from the Paua King of Ohio rank pretty high with this chick! b

Pink/purple, sigh.......You're going to have a blast with those. It's the right time of year especially, for beach jewelry.

Now you are hooked for life! There is no turning back once you have done 1 piece and you love it. :) I can not tell what colors I see, but I can see all the colors. I love abalone shells and the colors of Paua are the most vibrant. A great way to finish off the piece to make it the shiniest possible is to give it a few coats of clear fingernail polish. Be sure to apply it ONLY to dry shells and to be sure to use very thin coats so it will dry tack free. I am not sure if I am still the Paua King of Ohio, as many people are now obtaining vast amounts of the shell, but I do thank you for the wonderful compliment. Harry, Beadstyle has a shell necklace on page 96. It's made with shell, leather and silver accents with a big shell donut at the focal of it. It's really pretty. Thought of you when I saw it
