That is very good to know. We have a Sealy Posturepedic that's about three years old, (both mattress and box spring) but it's so firm that my shoulder is usually sore in the morning from sleeping on it.

We bought one like that for Darian last year--and up until he ruined it by jumping all over it, there was a marked difference in his sleep quality.

Noooooooooooooooo I am NOT going there. I already proposed the yogurt wrestling today, that's enough for me.

My back seems to hurt no matter what I sleep on, but softer mattresses are hellish on my hips.

That's what we have now. A Sealy Posturepedic "pillowtop". Actually all the posturepedics use that same hard base, but have varying amounts of soft padding on top. Since most people who are bed-bound do use the egg crates, they basic hard mattress would have enough padding, and my dad still would have been able to raise to a sitting position by pushing up from the bed with his arm/elbow.

I've had that mattress for 8 years. Boy I sure remember the first week I had it, when all the aches I had disappeared. With multiple discounts, I got a set for just $600 or $700 (without them they would have been around. Much cheaper than when I got a cheap set for $140, my back hurt after 6 months, and they absolutely needed replacement within 2 years.

Good for you Lori!

I love my bed, it's just the right amount of softness. I don't want to sink into it and it's not so hard that it's like sleeping on the floor. There's nothing like a good bed for a good night's sleep. Glad you figured it out before you had to get tortured by the bone cracker.

When we moved into the new house, we left our old bed in the old house. It was only about 6 years old. Top of the line. 20 yr warrenty. I wasn't comfortable. We bought a memory foam matteress. It sits on a platform with drawers designed for a waterbed. It doesn't need box springs. According to many schools of thinking, sleeping on anything with metal in it disrupts the natural harmony of the body. All I know is, I sleep much more restfully, have no sore spots, and wish I had made the switch years ago. There are now three companies making memory foam mattresses. Shop around for the best deal. I saw the same mattress for 500 more at a different store.....

I want a memory foam mattress. BADLY. I saw an ad for one somewhere and stopped, utterly riveted by the idea...

Someday. Prices will drop and our income will rise, and the two will meet somewhere in between.

This is old Space Program technology, so you may be able to get the foam cheaper from some sort of scientific site.
