Always bring your own lighting :-D

We went to our first craft show on Saturday - we have four more Saturdays at different venues to do. I had a choice spot in the inner ring and did really well, I made the table three times over. The most notable thing though, about the community hall was the poor lighting. I was so disappointed with it - it'll be another question to ask when I book shows next year. Everything looked the wrong colour - pink looked purple, green looked barfy, my clear beads looked blue - Mom and I were sending people outside so they could see things in natural light. I don't think the lights were fluorescent, but several people told us that they had been complaining about the lighting for 20 years!

Yep, I learned that one fairly quickly, I have one tote that is labelled "Electrical", and is taken to all shows, whether I think it will be required or not, full of extension cords, clamp-on lights, floor spot lights and spare bulbs for all. Community halls are notoriously poorly lit, with marginal electrical circuits. Best to have at least one long, heavy duty extension cord just in case.....It is difficult to impress organizers with how important good lighting is to the artist.

LOL, that's exactly where it was too! Fortunately we have been to the other venues and know that they have good lighting. This one was a new location for us.

Hi David,

That's an excellent idea...I'll have to start such a kit for next year and remember to ask about it next time I book a sale. This was our first time at this particular venue, the others are pretty good as far as lighting is concerned.

Yes, I am thinking that...our last venue seems to get this idea. They charge $5 for power. Unfortunately when I went to sign up, all the "power" tables had been taken...and even then you have to ask how the power is provided (if it's just an outlet or a power bar, or...), lest circuits get blown.

LOL, I guess that's why it helps to have these things all in one box...but you just know that some piece is going to go missing at some point :-D

What's funny is that I DID have all my show stuff in a big Rubbermaid tub, and someone decided to "put things away" which meant TAKING EVERYTHING OUT and putting it where *they* thought it should go. Serious irritation factor, here! As if I would have put it in a tub if I didn't WANT it in a tub?
