Another Ebay question

Well, as I stated, I finally won an Ebay item. I set up a Paypal account and sent my payment in immediately after the auction closed. This was on January

  1. Shouldn't I have heard something from the seller or is it common practice to just ship the item?

I always send my customers a note saying thank you for the payment and to let them know when I'll be taking their package to the P.O. Some people don't though. I bought something from a seller, and in their listing it said you would be contacted about payment within 24 hours. I never heard from them. I e-mailed them twice and called them once. Finally, the package arrived, after 2-3 of weeks. It was to be a Christmas gift, but arrived Dec. 26. It was a good product at a good price, but because of this, I would NEVER business with them again. I would have left negative feedback, but I'd have worried about them retaliating.

In the seller's defence, I just went back and re-read the blurb. At the very bottom, she asked that she be contacted within two days with method of payment. Since I paid via Paypal moments after the auction ended, I sent her an email via Ebay. I'll have to see if she responds. I *assumed* she would contact me first but apparently not.

Is there anything else I should do?

In my experience, it's about 40/60 as far as responding goes. And with the flu going around like this, I'd give some leeway. But it might be a good idea to call. By the way, you did get your PayPal verification of payment didn' tyou? In the past,I have thought I'd paid, but missed hitting a button some where.

Yes I did. Had to double check but it's saved in a separate folder for a receipt.

It all depends on the seller. I have bought items and got immediate responses and some never say Boo and the next thing you know it's in the mail box. All depends if they care about the buyer I guess. Harry

Another reason why the ebay feedback system is becoming less worthwhile. If you don't leave a neg, then you are being unfair to other potential buyers. A simply worded, factual negative, and similar reply to any retaliatory feedback paints the picture for others.

This varies widely from seller to seller. Some of them treat it like a regular mail-order business; when I order something from Rio Grande, I don't expect an extra notification when the item ships. I think most eBay sellers do provide a note saying "received payment, thank you", but it's not mandatory. If you haven't heard from them or received the item by the middle of next week, you might send a followup e-mail asking if they received the payment.

It depends on the seller, but I usually email the customer to let them know I received payment and inform them when I am shipping the item. But some sellers have so many customers that they either automate their responses or they just send out the item. Check your feedback - some sellers use that as a response.

I have feedback - and it's positive. :-) Since posting this post I re-read the description and the seller requested an email informing her of my method of payment. I didn't read that far down at first. I emailed her and have since received a response. My bead is on its way!

Now the question is what do I do with it. I bought 4 beading mags today and one of them has a design I think I can modify to suit the bead - and me.

Thanks to everyone for helping me to better understand how Ebay works and to better understand the mind of the seller. I truly appreciate the insight.
