Atkins

If your DH wants to go on a diet requiring special cooking, then let him cook.

Basically, all he can eat for the next two weeks are meat and salad - very basic salad. and maybe some steamed spinach or broccoli.

BINGO. although in Ken's case, as hard as he's working at keeping Mary happy, i might make an exception.

And eggs, and cheese, and fish, and chicken... fresh spinach, broccoli, salad, (no noodles or carrots).

BUT, if he goes into this thinking of it as a diet, he will eventually stop eating this way, and he WILL gain all of the weight back. (of course, that happens with any 'diet.') If he decides it makes him feel better, and it becomes a way of life, he will be much better off.

I feel the same way. I guess some people are built so that they can handle a low carb diet - and some aren't. I don't eat a whole lot of meat, and I have cut back on dairy because it can upset my stomach, so if I went low carb there would only be soy and veggies left. :D To each her own, of course. :)

I felt the same way - bread and potatoes all the way. Irish background. :-)

But I finally realized that that was part of my problem - I was sort of 'addicted' to the stuff, and it was making me crave more and more, and feel worse and worse. Since I don't do 'cutting back' well, giving up entirely is actually a better option for me. And while occasionally I think a baked potato would be good, I actually don't miss them at all. I've never liked pasta. And I still eat bread - it's just low-carb, that I either make myself or buy.

Just what works for me. I fully understand that it doesn't work for a lot of others. Just didn't want to let the original comment about 'only meat and salad' pass unremarked; it's just not true.

I loved Atkins, but gotta say I do not endorse it for the long run. Your body is in keytosis -- it is literally eating itself up. Not very healthy. No matter what they say.

Yep! I could gladly give up all meats if I was allowed my carbs!
