]Not really, although it's along the same lines. Kate's watches have two larger ]jump rings, one on each side of the bar, and *one* large bead (about 8mm) in ]between them filling the gap, with the beading wire going thru all three.

okay - because i'm not really happy with this one. and i've been struggling with it for three days now. maybe my jump rings aren't large enough. i'd really like to hide that pin - but every thing i've tried so far hasn't worked. and all the larger beads i have are too wide.

back to the drawing board!

Ah! I should note, then, that Kate's method does *not* hide the pin at all, but rather sort of incorporates the naked pin into the design.

yes - i understood that. i'm just not liking it on this watch, for some reason. the watch is old. the pin is "gray" and the sterling stands out against it. i'm beginning to think of a peyote strap that i can hide the pin inside. but i'm afraid that what i already have may be the "style" she is looking for. i'm so confused!

okay - this is becoming incredibly frustrating. i even tried Kathy's new "wave" peyote. i'm thinking this MIGHT work, if i can embellish the basic band enough, but i'm still not happy with it - and if anyone has any suggestions, i'd love to hear them!

what did you use to string this with? It has several strands, but they don't appear to be all bunched up and obvious at the crimp/toggle (a problem I'm having with multi strands).

Fireline. it's all i ever use. after much "playing" and "ribbitting" the best solution is to taper the size of the beads the closer you get to the crimp/join. and/or take 4 strands to two, then to one, then crimp. another reason for using Fireline - multiple passes through small beads.

]Wow! I've most of this exchange so forgive me for asking but why ]"unfortunate"?

because they're incredibly labor intensive. well, the next ones might not be. this one is one of those "ideas" of mine that i've worked on for about a week now, tearing apart and redoing. i've lost count of the number of hours i've put into this one, just developing the ideas from something Celine said. granted, the lady in question loves it. but i'm not sure i want to do two more like it - at least not in a hurry. her daughters will receive ones MUCH simpler, with her prior approval, of course.

i love this lady dearly. and she is one of my most ardent supporters. so i spend more time on items for her than i probably should. and i did learn a lot with all the variations on this one. i also learned more about my limitations!!!!

the problem is the watch has a "pin" rather than being made for beading, like this one.

which i need to go back and finish.

Another method could be making the woven strap (one for each side), and attaching it with small jump rings to the post. If you used three or five per side, it would look like a decorative element, and so many jump rings would likely stand up. (I'd say split rings, but I can't for the life of me figure out how you could get them on the post without losing your mind)

I'll have to add some watchband weaving tests to my list of projects.

]It's lovely. I suspect that it could be made into a beadweaving project, ]although I don't know how it would hold up. One strap per side, looped under ]the post and sewn down would do it. I think you'd need 15/0 beads, though, ]and I worry they wouldn't hold up.

thank you! i actually tried your "peyote wave" as one idea, but decided it probably wouldn't hold the weight of the watch, which is why i went back to the wire. and even with the 15s, there wasn't QUITE enough room between the curve of the watch face and the pin for the beads to slide through easily. THAT was very frustrating!

now THAT is something i may just try. i didn't think about adding MORE rings! DUH! [slapping self upside the head] and the pin comes out, once you figure out how. [or let a jeweler do it] you just have to make sure you have room inside the rings for the post AND the beads. if the split rings are already on the beadwork, it's just a matter of removing the pin, sliding it through the rings, and reinstalling it.

my problems kept coming up when either the wire the rings were made from were too big for the space between the face and the pin or the beads were too big for the same space. it's a larger watch than i'm used to working with and i hadn't realized the pin would be proportionally larger, too.......for the weight of the face.

]I'll have to add some watchband weaving tests to my list of projects.

oh, that would be wonderful!!!!!!!
