I discovered this yesterday and I was wondering if anyone else has been in this situation. I am making a "Birthday Scrapbook" for my mother-in-law. I am making each page a specail birthday wish from whoever is in the photo. Like my husband on one page, my daughter on another, and etc. I have done all of these different pages and I finally came to the end of the book and realized I didn't do a page from me. So, I went on a search for a photograph of me to put in the book and there are hardly ANY pictures of me in this house. I know I am the "photographer" of the family but I never realized how many pictures I am NOT in! I finally had to get my son to take a picture of me yesterday with my digital camera and have it developed. I can't wait to give this book to her Sunday. I have been working on it for a month now.
can't believe this...sort of

What an awesome gift!! I can totally relate to there not being many pictures of you...I tend to run and hide when other people pull out the camera, lol! You will have to let us know how she reacts to the album!~ Arleen
Yeah, it is the same way with me. I always have to remember to ask someone to take a picture of me with my girls so they have "picture proof" that they actually have a mother. Everyone else that seems to take pictures are taking them of the children or of my backside...ha, ha!
My husband barely has any photos of his mother as she always thought she was "too heavy" and didn't want to look like that in a photo. If you do that, you'll never get any photos, which is exactly what happened. There also are barely any photos of his father as in the early years he did all of the picture taking and later on he was the alcoholic father that was never around. SAD!
Oh, meant to say what a nice gift for your MIL. I am sure she will LOVE it!
Yes, I seem to be vacant from most photo oportunities. I try not to get a complex about it. :D
My neighbor across the street had his 95th birthday in February. There were cameras going off all day. He came across the street said someone had made him a wonderful album with all the photos from the party and there weren any photos of my family. He wonder if I would give him one to put in the album. Geeze! Am I invisible?

What a wonderful idea for an album by the way. She's going to LOVE it.

Jennifer, I realized the same thing when I started working on the abums for my children and grandchildren. It was hard to find pictures of me with them to put in the albums. I finally had to go to my sisters and get pics from them thay they had taken at family events to have some with me in them. This past Christmas and Easter I made sure there were pictures taken with me and each of the children. At Easter my older children took pictures of me with all of the grandchildren (5) and my two future grandchildren as we were all together. It is one I will cherish. Sandy
Sounds like a wonderful gift. I always volunteer to take the pics, good way of avoiding to be in them :)

Jennifer, this sounds like a wonderful book!! What a great idea!
Yes, I have found myself in this situation as well. Last year I wanted to give DH a picture of me for Valentine's Day. Like you I ended up having DS take a picture. I gave DH a digital camera for Vlaentine's Day (he wanted it to use at work) and I told him that he was to also use the camera ramdomly at family events. So now we have pictures of me as well.
Be sure you let us know how your MIL likes the book!
I can also relate. I am working on an album for my dad's 50th birthday (coming up the end of this month). I did a page of my sister and mother (easy) well mom wasn't so easy she's always trying to hide her face but I have several good pictures of her. But when it came to my page it wasn't so easy matter of fact I'm still searching. I may just have to have DH snap some pictures of me.

That sounds like a great book Jennifer. I have the same problem ,too. I only have photos of me that other people have taken and not very many of those!

What a great gift for your mother-in-law. I bet she will love it.
I love the idea for the card. Sounds like a great way to give a birthday gift. Would make a good mothers day card too, from many kids.
I have 3 kids, and well almost every picture is taken by me, so I am not in any of them. If I have someone take a picture they never take it right and then it is messed up or blurry, or someone isn't looking at the camera, and then it was pointless to take the picture anyhow...Its funny how that works out. I have a digital camera, so trying to explain to people how the focus works, and where this is and that is, its just a pain. My mother is totally electronically challenged, and getting her to take a clear picture is like pulling teeth. So good thing for the digital cause she can take pics till the card is full and I can go threw them and get the one or two that are clear enough and worth saving...lol
But yeah I have very little pics of me and my kids all together. It sucks but I try to work in one or two as often as possible...
I can believe it. I have lots of photos with other people, but have to remember to get them to take pictures of me. I know she'll love the book and all the work will be worth it. Wish her Happy Birthday from us.

I think I'm in 3 pictures. Whats worse is, one of them is me with our youngest son. There are no pictures of me with my other kids. I get so jealous when I see all those beautiful pictures of mothers with their children. Nobody in the house can pick up the camera and take a picture of me. When they do, my hair is a mess, I have no makeup on and I'm in a housecoat or something. Nothing worth scrapping, or even saving for that matter.
This was happening to me too. So now whenever I like what I'm wearing I have my son 11, daughter 5 or hubby take a picture. I also noticed I didn't have any pictures of my husband and I so I make sure to have the kids take pictures of us. With the digital they can take a bunch and chances are 1 will come out good enough.

I know what you mean. The few photos I did find with me in them, I definitely wouldn't want to put in a scrapbook. One was of me still in my gown, on the phone with a friend. Another one was with my backside to the camera. My DH did take one of me on Easter putting all of the eggs in a basket but he caught me in mid-blink so I look doped up or something.
That sounds like a wonderful album Jennifer! I'm sure your MIL will love it.
I'm in the same boat with the photos...or lack thereof. LOL I'm usually behind the camera, not in front! But I do need to get better about that, or we won't have many photos of me for future generations.
It seems to be a common problem! I've got almost no photos of my mother because she's a compulsive photo-avoider. She taught me to be one too - I always thought I looked too fat or ugly or badly-dressed and wouldn't let anyone take my photo. But then I realised that one day I was going to die and there wouldn't be any record of my ever having existed after the age of twelve... so I stopped avoiding the camera.
Somehow there still aren't many shots - I think I've got an automatic cloaking device or something becuase whenever I go to a party and someone takes photos, when they show them around I'm not in any of them! If I'm lucky there might be a picture of my back... but most often there aren't any photos of me because I'm the one behind the camera!
That sounds like a great present - I'm sure your MIL will love it :)
