Beads breaking while weaving

This has happened to me, and I've just tried to hide the exposed thread and woven another bead in it's place. I don't recommend cutting the showing thread because it's holding the rest of the piece together. Not much help am I? LOL! Hope someone else can help you! You've got my sympathy! I hate it when that happens!

Usually, it's possible to keep going around the shattered bead. Once you have a couple of rows of beads all around the boo-boo, you can weave a bead into the empty space. I usually start a few beads before the space, secure another thread with a couple of half-hitches, weave in the new bead, and bring the thread through another couple of beads and half-hitch into place. For security's sake, I'd put a little watch crystal glue or nail polish onto the new thread just to secure. Once the glue or whatever dries, only then would I carefully snip the original thread that held the broken bead.

For an earring or something small, I wouldn't bother; but I had several crystals break when I was weaving the crystal kimono. I was able to fix all the holes without problems. It's not easy to find the repaired spots (DH tells me it's impossible, but I'm a fusspot)

For a broken bead on the edge of a piece, it's a lot easier: just get another needle and thread and weave in a replacement. Again, a touch of nail polish or watch crystal cement would make the piece much more secure.

BTW, culling your seed beads carefully to get rid of those with small holes is the best way to keep this from happening. It's much easier to cull the beads than do the repairs, and the swearing level is greatly reduced.

I was weaving some earrings and made one too many passes through a bead and it shattered. In a small pair of earrings it was a minor annoyance, I had to re-make the entire earring. What happens if a bead is shattered in a large piece, is there any way to replace or salvage the work or am I basically up sh*t creek?!

This I agree with. It's really hard to fix when one breaks in the middle. :) And it's so frustrating!!

I'm too scared to do that. LOL! I don't want my pieces falling apart on me! On some of them I can't even remember how I passed the thread (like freeform stuff, which is where it happens most often).
