Well, I'm not a virgin any more...

Had my first item stolen at an event this past weekend. We were at the Medfair in Norman, OK, and a pair of rainbow earrings disappeared. I didn't sell them and neither did Russ, and they weren't on the ground under the table -- we looked multiple times, including going over the whole area with a flashlight after everything was packed up. It was a really busy event; there would have been plenty of chances for someone to pocket a small item and walk off while we were both occupied elsewhere. I'm told that for a large public event like this, to lose only one thing is pretty good.

Aside from that, it was a good weekend. We were running the T-shirt booth for Pegasus Publishing (I was just piggybacking, with 1 table in a 20x20' booth) and the total gross sales were over $6,000! Only about $400 of that was mine, and once again it was almost entirely the inexpensive silver earrings and pendants. There were a *lot* of jewelry vendors there, many of whom were selling either extremely cheap stuff (pewter charms on leather cord) or bought-to-resell items; I think I suffered from the inexpensive competition. But the weather was fabulous for all three days, and I made a few good contacts. We're exhausted!

It is a portent of good things to come this year! Sales are finally returning to previous levels (this is my prediction, and I claim it to be true!). I had a great show this past weekend. Even sold 2 pieces that were over 350 each. Plus tons of smaller to medium pieces. Too bad it's the only show I'm doing this spring......and maybe all year.... Barbara Dream Master

Things have just abruptly picked up for me too, which I can certainly partially attribute to the ad, but part of it seems totally unrelated... I've had two large and one small special-orders this week! I'm so pleased I could dance! If this keeps up (knock on wood) I'll be able to afford to buy... more beads! Woo hoo! And glass. New, different, wonderful kinds of glass!

Small - OMG - I love small beads. I'm in so much trouble. This is just an EVIL group. Making me spend all my $$ on gorgeous art.

well - - i meant small in comparison to a book, or something like that. not necessarily small for a bead. but you have to hold them in your hand to believe them - and most people i show them off to don't even believe them THEN!

The square bead that you have, I like the "top" flowers...to me, one looks like a bird, and the right one looks more like a hummingbird...perhaps it's a flow you can work towards?

I do too. I love working with the little ones the most. I use them so much more often. ~~ Sooz

I blame my addiction to tiny beads on my mother. she LOVES pint-sized things (my sister and I often joke that it's because she's a pint-sized woman), and has whole collections of tiny cooking utensils, tools (both garden and things like wrenches and screwdrivers), vases and assorted bottles, ect. Every time I see something that's cute and mini in a store, I bring it home for her. so naturally when I see itty bitty beads, my first reaction is "that's SO COOL! they're so tiny!" especially when they're things like animal beads or little charms.

I actually bought some teeny little silver kitty cat charms recently to make something for my mom, as in addition to tiny things, she loves cats, but I'm not sure what to do with them. she doesn't wear jewelry, so that's out..I was thinking of making her a bookmark out of a strip of flat peyote and attaching the kitties to the tassel. or dangling them from a suncatcher. I'll figure something out.

my ebay sales haven't been slow.

they've been freakin non existant. nothing sold for weeks on end, so I stopped listing stuff for a bit. got sick of seeing all the ebay fees I'd racked up, and nothing selling to cover any of it.

there's a craft fair coming in late autumn, and I've been trying to convince my sister to get a booth with me (she makes netting bed canopies, candles, and mosaic candle holders), but I don't think she will. sigh. and I don't think I can afford to get one on my own. she was all for it last year, and told the woman that organizes the fair to send her info when she starts renting out booths, but since then she's lost interest. ah well. I've never done a craft fair before.

Things have picked up for me too - in spades! It's wonderful and exhausting at the same time. :) Hooray for success! I am so glad things are picking back up in general. Several people have posted about that in various places.
