Cherry Quartz

Did anyone see the Fake Stone Alert in Beadwork Aug/Sept mag? I had gotten some cherry quartz last month and asked if those were little bubbles I was seeing in the cherry quartz. So I am not surprised to see this expose saying that Cherry quartz is not only dyed, but dyed GLASS!!.

Yes, it's a man-made stone. Very pretty, but don't let anyone fool you into thinking it's "natural quartz". I always call it "cherry crystal" when I've put it into something.

Man, if it is just dyed glass then why is it so grainy looking? I wish they would dye it better. LOLOLOLOLOL Becki "In between the moon and you, the angels have a better view of the crumbling difference between wrong and right.." -- Counting Crows

To simulate stone. Real stones have similar things, with names like aventurescence, and some other things.

I wonder what COE it is, and whether it would retain that color if melted.... hmmmmm...

Yeah, but there are some pretty loose interpretations of "dyed", and if the color permeates the glass, which it would have to in order to not wear off (since glass is porous, true dye doesn't work very well) then it has to have been in the melt. I suspect it may be colored glass, rather than dyed glass.
