friction

Sometime ago I had a 14K gold chain, and I've put an 18K gold pendant on it. It wasn't long before the chain started breaking (frequently). A few days ago I've read one online article which stated that wearing pendants on chains of another caratage (than the one of pendants) causes friction forse, which can, because of the diference in hardness of metals, result in damaging the chain, making it easier to break. Any opinions on that? Without any pendant a gold chain made in thin elements will be worn out after some years. A worn out chain will break very often. Nothing to do with different karats of gold.

Looks more like a Japanese version of Warcraft, or something like that. Thought it was Neverwinter at first, but it's not.
