add to my half finished bead of EDP? It's only about a thousand degrees, and the fur should look great. Or, I could just roll the cat in baking soda and then use the fur! kewl."<

Hey, you've heard about the Native American horsehair pots, haven't you? Okay, so they're pottery, not glass....so what?

I've never seen the Japanese production lampwork, but the Japanese artisan lampwork I've seen is flat-out AMAZING.

I honestly expect to start seeing good artisan lampwork out of China eventually, too. Their production workers are too good... right now they're dumping, but eventually prices will go up and a few of the more skilled, creative craftspeople will start working for themselves (political/social climate permitting) and selling true artisan beads. I can't wait... rather than just copying Western lampwork, I expect to see some truly regional/cultural styles evolve, as has happened in Japan.

I like how you say "next time, for sure!" in a tone that implies eagerness...

OMTP-I don't just look around my own house. I look at other people's houses, the mall, Home Depot (where I get really strange looks after explaining why I want XYZ), antique malls, garage sales, etc.

I'm even guilty to have gotten DH in the mix. He now asks me, "what about this? Wouldn't it make a neat shape?"

I agree - at the Gathering Kalera and I saw some flat out amazing Japanese lampwork artists. I almost cried when I saw one bead that I could not afford but really really wanted. The styles are completely different from anything else I have seen. Michael Barley's styles can me somewhat similar, but he's the only one I have seen that is anything even close. Aren't there a couple of examples in 1000 Beads?

I have to agree with Candice, they are uuuuuglyy. How has she sold over 1000 items? Is it just the price and ignorant buyers? (ignorant not stupid) The "entire bracelet" pic is a joke. I am certainly no expert like some of those here, but even I can see the imports and the poor quality over all. Armand

Yes, in fact at least one of the two artists we saw has work in 1000 glass beads! OK, page 274 and 275... Akihiro and Yasuhiro Ohkama... weren't they there? And then the guy next to them, I don't remember his name but he was SO nice and his work was incredible! He was from Japan too.

(I dunno, but even if it's just links to business cards, it's a cool page)

(worth clicking anything that looks like a link)
formatting link
(offers an English Page via babelfish but it's not too successful with the links, stick with the original Japanese pages)

Tektites? And what would moldavite do? Would obsidian melt into a glass? What other naturally occurring glass can I think of. Or how about part of a chunk of beach glass.

Tylenol! Really - I took a bad fall last night and was trying to distract myself from the pain. It was fun, and an exercise in seeing how far I could go in imagining creating an art form I've never even seen, and making an entertaining story as well.

I'm glad I made you guys laugh - I think I'm evolving in my writing, and you guys are my test audience. :-)

P.S.: Because I know you guys are going to ask: I was simply standing there and my right leg gave out on me. As you may know, my left leg doesn't support me at all, and I use it as a rudder more than anything. Unfortunately, one leg slid one way, and the other slid another way, and I got a Power Wedgie (tm)

I'm doing a very good job hiding the pain right now, because Bob has an awards dinner tonight, and if he knew I was really hurting, he'd want to stay home with me. Still, there's no way I'll make it to the dinner without the friggin' wheelchair. Wish me luck.

I loved the story. However, my dear, you need to tell Bob even though you don't want to do that. I don't want you having a bad week from trying even more tonight. If you still want to go then at least he'll know everything that's going on.
