I got paid!

I just received a money order from my future sis in law. She was paying me for a necklace I designed for her--and it's my first completed order since what I like to call "getting da skills, man." The bad thing is I couldn't talk her out of the beads she selected---some easily broken India lampwork--in fact, three of the beads broke enroute to me! I was sobbing as I paried those beads with S. crystals, but hey--what the customer wants is what the customer gets. And trust me--I made damn sure she knows how fragile those beads are, and that I can in no way guarantee them staying in one piece.

Maaaaaaaaaaaaan this feels so GOOD!

Now, I suppose I ought to mail her the necklace, right? lol--future sis in law or not--there was no way I was going to mail it off without payment in hand:)

Doesn't that officially make you a professional?

Congrats on your first order! It's a shame that she picked the indian lampwork..hopefully the beads won't break.

I'm actually guilty of using cheaper stuff when making jewelry for my cousins or sister, because I know that they don't take care of their stuff. I'd rather see a necklace of generic bali-style silver toned beads get lost, dog chewed, left on the floor or broken than something made of real bali silver.

Wow. Perhaps I'm lucky, but no family member would ever consider treating my work like that. It might have happened to one of my giveaway bracelets, but once those left my hands, they were gone, and I never thought of them again.

If any family member treated _one_ piece of my stuff like that, it would be the last piece they ever got. Manda does break things, but it's the fiddling she does because of her ADD. She'll unconciously fiddle with a bracelet so she can concentrate on what the teacher is saying. If a bracelet breaks because of that, I'm okay with it - I know it's not intentional, and a couple of strands of SoftTouch mean nothing compared to my daughter's well-being. (This kid tortures herself when she cannot concentrate)
