Looking for sterling disc beads

Does anybody know a source for 3-5mm sterling disc beads? I'm looking for something that's not a saucer, but a completely flat disc, preferably no more than 1mm thick, and I can't seem to find them anywhere! Of course, I haven't seen my Rio catalogues since we moved . It seems like they would be sooo easy to get, since it's just sheet metal with a hole punched in it, but I'm not finding them! Argh!

Also, who here reads Beadwork magazine, and what do you think of it? I picked up the "Stringing" issue (is that a regular thing or a special edition or a quarterly or???)from my local grocery store and I was wondering what everyone's overall impression of it is.

Thanks!

... and yet again our paths cross... LOL! I have been looking for these FOREVER. The best I was able to find before I got fed up and sidetracked were the Greek ceramic beads that are coated in fine silver, like these on Connie Fox's site:

The ones I'm looking for are this shape and thickness, but somewhat smaller and are sterling. Bleah. I get tired just THINKING about how much time I spent looking for these things.

I got the Winter 2003 issue for Christmas along with a subscription. I liked what I saw in that issue -- no more ads than any other bead rag and some innovative projects. I just learned to knit over the holidays (addictive!), and there's a bead-knitting project in this issue that looks great. Sorry, I don't know about the special edition.

Rio Grande catalog, page 351, 10 pieces per package:

410-569 1x6mm, .033" hole Starting at $2.80/pkg (1-2) to $2.17/pkg (5-9) 410-570 1x8.1mm, .057" hole Starting at $5.49/pkg (1-2) to $4.39/pkg (5-9) 410-571 1x10.1mm, .047" hole Starting at $7.52/pkg (1-2) to $6.08/pkg (5-9)

Current silver prices would apply - an increase of about 10% or so.

HTH!!

I like Beadwork because it contains a lot of beadweaving projects, more than B&B which is more stringing. They've had some really fun projects, actually!

What about a set of circle punches? Cut your own from sheet silver. Tumble to smooth the raw edges. Just a thought.

are these what you are looking for?

Thanks! No, no eBay sellers seem to have them (or they aren't listing them) I checked out the other sellers you gave and no luck with them either. I surprised these are so hard to come by!

Oh, this is so funny! Yes, that's exactly what I want. I keep thinking "Gosh, they'd be so easy to make" but of course, *I* don't want to make them, I want to buy them! Maybe one of us should go into business making these suckers! (Except, of course, that both of us have glass to melt.)

If you can't find them either, and you've been lookingh longer, I think I may call it quis and use the regular puffy discs. Not what I want, but I guess it would be "close enough for government work", as my dad likes to say.

LOL I might have to, if I want them badly enough. Maybe I can have Andrew do it!

Thanks! I like what I see of the Stringing issue, but I can't tell if it's a regular t hing at all... I'll pick up the regular issue next time I'm out. I figured I'd get some informed opinions rather than just go with my own impressions, since I'm a novice stringer, so thank you!

Yes, exactly like those but 4-5mm. Interestingly, those were the only example I was able to find online of anythuing even *similar* to what I want! Most companies have puffy discs, and a search on "sterling washers" turns up zip that's of use. It's so strange!

Hi Kalera, re 3-5mm sterling disk beads, have you tried Fire Mountain?

(I think). My catalog is at a friend's house right now or I'd look for you, but they have a large inventory and an online catalog. Another idea might be an ebay search, or try

who also sells findings on ebay. Good luck! Diane

Large heishi beads? I've seen these but I can't remember where.

Here's a few links I found. The last one is the google search that looked like it was going somewhere.
