More on MAPP gas

To everyone who tried to help in my quest for MAPP gas in the St Louis area, in larger quantities than 1 lb -- thanks! I just got a response from Praxair, the big gas supplier around these parts. Here's what they say: "We recently quit filling MAPP gas at the St Louis Plant and have gone specifically to Propylene gas. I am not aware of any other suppliers for MAPP in the St. Louis area other than the disposable 1lb cylinders. " So that's one mystery solved! Now, who knows whether Propylene gas is compatible with HotHead torches? The quest continues...

this quote alone from that page"Mapp is a brand name and is not available everywhere. Often, where it isavailable, you cannot buy Mapp tanks outright, but they have a leasing program.Other names for brazing fuels are: Flame-X, Chemtaine and PCG (Pure CuttingGas). I've had good results with all of these. Regardless of what it is called, you want a brazing fuel that burns at 3600 degrees, not propane! " Go Steve Go.....!!!get that big tank... Okay Cheryl, I'm all pumped up now! I wonder why the guy at Praxair didn't bother telling me about those options? You'd think they'd want to sell products, not get picky about terminology. I'll call back and spring these new "magic words" at him and see if he recognizes those, I need to do some more landscape beads and I'm out of little MAPP cylinders. Landscape beads are absolutely fascinating. It's a little like growing potatoes, you never know what you're going to get until you're completely finished. Usually either a spectacular success or a total failure! Anyway thanks for the link and info!

Yes, it is, I used it for years and preferred it to MAPP.
