New Glass Piece

We had to go to Houston today to pick up a granddaughter clock my MIL won on eBay. It's been a long ordeal over one of these clocks. Ever since I found one and purchased it she's been on us to find her another.

Anyhow, we visited some antique shops on our way home. In one of them they had some broken glass paperweights and I'm thinking, what the heck they need love too. So I have my very first paperweights that will have a loving home on my desk.

I love finding things when we go out. We also purchased a secretary to put beside my side of the bed. It's solid oak with ball & claw feet, three drawers and beautiful. We also found a beautiful 1800's mantel clock we purchased for a steal at $20. I still can't believe our luck today.

p.s. Did I say I was happy I went to Houston...even if I couldn't get near the water.

Gotta ask....what the heck does a granddaughter clock look like????

My mom is a bit of a clock nut. Too long to explain, but never heard of this type.

A granddaughter clock is about 4 - 4 1/2 feet tall. Usually has a narrow body and comes in all sort of chimes. They are super hard to find. In the eleven years we have been looking I've seen four. One my MIL owned, one we owned, one my MIL didn't win on eBay two years ago, and this one. They are extremely rare in good condition and most people have never seen one in their entire life.

I love mine. It's tiger oak and strikes on the hour and half hour. My MIL's new one is Westminster chimes so hour, quarter hour, half, etc. I wish I could wind it, but it's packed so nicely to make it's trip to TN.

I have some photos on Yahoo that show the face. Here is the link.

I plan on adding more photos for her tomorrow. The auction pics did not do justice to this lovely clock. Starlia

I love finding old treasures also. I have an old oak kitchen hutch that I bought for $40.00 many years ago at a yard sale in KY. (back when we lived waaaay out in the sticks...) I plan on having it re-finished and restored when we move to the new house. My current husband wanted to know if we were getting rid of "that ugly old thing" when we move. I just laughed and told him to not pass judgement on it until he sees what it's going to look like. It has been serving as a storage unit in my office for the past 16 years. The steps in our house are so steep, and the cabinet so heavy, that I couldn't confront hauling it out for repair. Now it has to go out, so it might as well spend a few weeks at the beauty parlor as well! Barbara Dream Master

I used to collect chiming clocks (with husband no. 1). I had an old German grandfather clock that we called "Big Ben". When it chimed you could hear it thru the whole house. I had to sell it many years ago when the money just got too tight. I bought a lovely wall clock that chimes with part of the money, food with the rest. It was too big for this little house as well. So many things have passed in and out of my life. Esp. when I think of the two antique stores we owned in the 70's. I watched Castaway (Tom Hanks) last night. I never got to see it when it was in the theaters. What a great movie. It has put me in a very reflective mood. Barbara Dream Master
