Calling all weavers and netters and nutters too.
I need to know the secret to tight thread tension when netting. I'm hoping for a better technique than just pulling the thread because I do but it doesn't stay that way.
I have lots of books and do not see this addressed anywhere! hmmm

I've found that Fireline stays taut, and does not stretch over time. You're supposed to stretch Nymo before you use it, but no matter how much I stretch it, it still has a little more "give" in it. So for anything sculptural, or things that need tension, skip Nymo or any "sewing" thread.

It makes sense. BUT (there's always one) with the netting I'm picking up three beads and then going through the middle of another three bead set and so forth and so on. The thread is basically flowing still. Easy for it to lose tension. I was wondering if knotting the thread between each set of three of something might help?
I've found that I have a problem with nymo and silamide stretching! I'm using C-lon because it doesn't stretch, thank you Foxden Designs who I highly recommend, wonderful people. Still I'd hate to not use all this other thread, especially the silamide which I like much more than the nymo.
I'm going to try your technique though, thank you Kathy.
I use Coats and Clark Upholstery thread. Being right handed, I hold my piece with my left hand, exactly at the last woven bead, holding the thread at the same time so it doesn't get loose while I string the next beads. I don't have other tricks than that. Denise

Yes, I've stretched the nymo but the silamide doesn't seem to lend itself to stretching or I'm doing something wrong?
I switched to C-Lon for now. BTW, I like this stuff!
Sooz, did you get my email with the pom pom? It was a success and I've moved on to the netted leaves. This cuff bracelet I'm making is really shaping up and I'm very pleased with myself.

Thank you! You should see the cuff in the light, the seed beads are lined with transparent green. I wish I could find more of these, love the colors. The pom pom would get lost without the leaves, just the right touch, you know? Yes, you do. :=)
I like the way you think, woman! The snaps don't appeal to me on this one. I've been thinking about beading a clasp....hmmm. Maybe I can try my hand at a three-strand toggle???? I've seen it done and by george I believe I'm up for challenge. Peyote, here I come. lol
