OT -- LOTR/ROTK

We went to see it this morning. All I can say is, if you liked the first two, this one will blow you away!

Would you rate the tissue factor at Beaches or Little Women? It's going to take a bit of organising to see the last one with DH's nieces this year, it'll be take DS with us or leave him with BIL and SIL while we take thier two eldest to the movie.

Eeeeeee! I can't wait! Is there a lot of Legolas?

There's a lot of *everyone*. Yes, Legolas gets a stunt to equal his stair-surfing at Helm's Deep. Sam gets several chances to shine, as do Merry and Pippin. And for those who like Aragorn, wait until you see him all spiffed up!

Roxan -- there's a lot of battle in this one too, but there sort of has to be, that's what all of Book 5 was about. I found the character arcs to be strong as well. Oh, and if you haven't seen the extended version of Two Towers, by all means do so. There are 40 extra minutes of footage, almost all of which is background and characterization, and on DVD you can fast-forward thru the battles if you like.

Melinda -- not having seen either of the two films you mention, I can't make a drect comparison on "Kleenex factor". (FWIW, I didn't cry... but then, I knew how it comes out.) I will note that the movie remains true to the book, ending on a bittersweet note rather than the "glorious victory after battle" scene.

I've never cried more at a movie than I did at Beaches. Never. Still do, every time I see it. Becki "In between the moon and you, the angels have a better view of the crumbling difference between wrong and right." -- Counting Crows

Celine... I read the trilogy the first time in jr. High a long long time ago... so I knew how it turned out too... it's just that I needed a tissue because they did some of the scenes with the most heart wrenching part so bloody well!!!

Yes, there is a lot of Legolas, and Aragorn looks *Mighty Good* spiffed up a bit, but wait till you hear him SING!!! I still think, that the unsung hero of the whole epic is Sam. He is truly a great friend. Frodo needs Sam and his strength of purpose and character mightily. Truly don't believe there would have been any chance at all for Frodo's quest without Samwise Gamgee.

OK the two other major cry movies for me are (drum roll please....)

Steel Magnolias Out of Africa

I contend that losing Robert Redford would make me cry every time. LOLOLOLOLOLOL Becki "In between the moon and you, the angels have a better view of the crumbling difference between wrong and right." -- Counting Crows

There's one movie that really hit me (having many kids) and that's Jude. Got it from the library. Can be a little boring (real people doing real things) but there's this one scene in there you definately DON'T want the kids to see.

And for a cheesy vampire movie with an intesting ending: Razor Blade Smile. You have to watch the entire thing to get it but it's a hell of an ending! If you like vampire movies that is.

And you didn't mention "The Way We Were"????

A Star is Born (Streisand and Kristofferson) and my second fave (an inspirational movie if there ever was one and the star is now in LOTR) Rudy, with Sean Astin. Two more tearjerkers for me.

Read the book, Out of Africa. In the book/biography, the pilot is a best friend, with no intimation of romance, though she appears to have a somewhat "open" marriage. But leaving her plantation in Africa was adequately heartwrenchimg. A great book.

YAY! I saw it today, in the IMAX, for my birthday:o) The best so far! There were so many parts where I just jumped up cheering ("I'm no man!" ;o) I didn't cry, though; I'm normally a crier at movies (man, Finding Nemo gets me every time!), but this one was put together really well. The only couple parts that got me all misty eyed were"Go home, Sam", and then, of course, "...but I can carry YOU!"

Heh...getting all misty eyed thinking about it now;o) We should all be as lucky to have friends like that in our lives!

Get the long version of Two Towers and watch it. Slowly, not all at once. It grows on you. I was disappointed when I saw it at the theater, but now I think it is every bit as good as Fellowship. I saw a review of Return that said to remember the theatrical version is only a very long teaser for the extended dvd that will come out next fall. The reviewer said the long versions were better because you could watch them for a little while, stop the movie and come back later and watch some more. Kind of like reading a book.
