OT: Psychological symptoms of menopause

I would like to know, from some of you with more experience, what are some of the psychological symptoms of menopause or perimenopause.

I have been having one week a month where I feel like a too taut string ready to snap. Just edgy and sensitive and restless. It sucks. Hard to relax and sleep well. I am considering becoming a herion addict (just kidding).

Anyone gone or going thru this? Any remedies?

Thanks,

KathyH

Actually, from what I've read/heard, that's some of the symptoms of when you ARE addicted! So don't bother with that...

Have you tried progesterone cream? Many of my women friends swear its the best. Not quite there yet myself, still getting a regular monthly "visitor" as we were told to call it when I was a girl. "a visit from Aunt Flo" I've hear it called too. Sarajane

My most obvious psychological symptom of menopause would have to be how pissed off I got when I gained about 50 pounds in the six months after mine was "official".

Grrr...

LOL!

For me, at least, opening up the kiln in the morning takes the edge off that Oh-so-pissy feeling.

I've started using it in prep for my hysterectomy in April. I LOVE the stuff. I went through a temporatry state of menopause a couple years ago while i was on Lupron, and used the cream then, as well, and it completely eliminated my menopause symptoms. Best part was, it kept me from having a stroke worse than it was. I had a mini stroke during that time, and the doc says that it would have been way worse, and could have done permanent damage, but since I was on the cream, it actually saved me from that. Just my two cents worth.

I made her a few years ago at a fusing class when we had limited materials to work with and I was feeling REALLY crappy. As I was well into peri-menopause at the time, she could just as well be called "Menny" woman! I always did want a t-shirt that said "I've got PMS and a hand gun. Any questions?????????????????" Seriously, though, go see your gynecologist and speak with him/her about your suspicions. A few simple blood tests can indicate where you are in the process and you can discuss what remedies, either natural or chemical, might be appropriate for you. You have my sympathies - been there, done that, glad it's mostly over for me!

That reminds me of my favorite PMS joke (you could substitute menopausal): How many women with PMS does it take to change a lightbulb?

ONE!!! YOU GOT A F**KING PROBLEM WITH THAT?!!!!!

*chuckle* See vj's response.

In reality, I'm almost 50. Chronologically, that is. I've just never lost my excitement at simply being alive, or my wonder at things that so many 'grown ups' take for granted. I'm lucky that way. Or maybe it's because I do THIS in my spare time:
