OT The garden

It has been so gorgeous here the last several of days. We couldn't resist the call of the outdoors. So, Sunday, we finally replaced the carpet on the front porch. I am lucky, I have a huge one since my home was built in 1930. Got the wicker out, getting my little hide-a way ready.

I planted several lilly of the valley pips and started looking at what I already had. My bleeding heart bush is full of buds and I realized something. I have accidently recreated my mom's garden. I have several rose bushes, the bleeding heart and lillies plus the pansies I planted last fall are in bloom, heck they bloom in winter if we have a mild streak. We have a wisteria vine coming up the front trellis that shades half the porch. These are all the plants mom had when I was growing up. I did loose 2 rose bushes this winter though.

Must have been something hidden away in me, some longing to go back to those simpler days.

Does any one else do this?

I always plant coral bells in my front planter, because my grandma had em in her yard!!

Right now, they're mixed with a frilly lavendar, and varigated sage, all of which is in bloom, for a profusion of deep coral, deep purple and lighter purple, with beautiful greens as the carpet below...

ahhhhhhh.

Definitely. Designing a garden is a key to your heart. (Though I don't duplicate my mother's garden, as she never gardened.....Other gardens of my childhood enter into it instead.) ~~ Sooz

Sounds divine, pictures please?

Unfortunately my childhood was never simple and my mother wasn't much of a gardener until late in life.

I'll share pics of the clematis vine when it first blooms, it's a riot of beauty!

You betcha. As soon as my mom had her on house, she planted fruit trees and grapes. My first house had them in profusion already, but when we moved I immediately planted fruit trees... six so far, with two more to come... and two grapevines.
