Been here reading

But life's been busy - Three weeks ago I started a new permanent job (as permanent as things can be these days !!!) afetr two years of uncertainity so nw heaving a sigh of relief . I became a grandma for the first time on the 7th December to Ava Mae 7lb 14ozs . I finish work on Thursday (possibly lunch time) And now I feel relaxed enough to pick up needle and thread or needles and wool for the first time in what seems like an age. We've had thick snowfall overnight with more forecast so snuggling up with craft and a good film is a perfect option. Jan in a very white Wiltshire UK

Congrats, Jan. There is nothing like a grandchild or "three" to enrich your life. It is also fun watching your kids be parents. Its a riot. (or at least mine are. LOL)

Congratulations on the job! Our hours have been cut drastically, not just here but all over B.C. so there are ten people trying for every job out there, and believe me, there aren't that many jobs out there.

Congrats on the job, Jan. I'm in the same boat - just six weeks into a new job, and still adapting to the schedule. It's really cut down on my reading and stitching, as much for lack of energy as lack of time! Hope that after the holidays, things settle down and I feel more even-keeled.

Ditto on the congrats for the job. It's hard all over, though around here (DC metro area) there seems to be an increase in hiring of late. Not wanting to jinx anything, but I did have a 2nd interview this week for a "real" type job. First interview with HR was almost 2 weeks ago, and then was scheduled for follow-up with the Sr. VP in Operations - but we got snowed out. But, despite my paranoia, they did follow through and got me in to see the Asst VP. Hard to do during holiday time. He did actually say that he thought I would be a good fit in the company, and plan on starting in mid-January, but I have to hear from the HR person in the next 2 weeks. So, fingers crossed here. Details once I have things confirmed - good thing

- the gent I interviewed with had also changed careers from being an Architect for 20 years to now overseeing this Opns/Logistics/Cust Serv group

- so he was totally good with my swapping fields from my researh engineering. Actually asked me to talk about my degrees - go figure -but that my Ops Research background would fit in, along with a bunch of other stuff. So, I'm hopeful. My local friends, and DH, are pretty insistent that I shouldn't take another coffee shop barista job as it clearly ends up making me crazy (er, crazier) dealing with the "we don't really care what we're doing" co-workers, and too much time on my feet.

So, I totally understand Jan feeling finally able to stitch again. I've been pretty antsy, with the job thing, and proposal deadlines - kind of freezes you.

Hope everyone is doing some fun stuff, stitching and otherwise, while getting used to the winter weather.
