I've been busy

Ok, so I haven't done much for a month and a half. Life got in the way. But on Tuesday I hit a good sale at a local quilt shop. So on Wednesday I started tracing applique shapes on Wonder Under and by Saturday I had the first top finished. Today I started AND finished piecing the second top....it was an easy pattern. I guess now I'll have to buckle down and start quilting. Not my favorite part...but the leaf quilt is going to be a gift, so I want to get that one done! I ordered a perfect backing for it...a hand dyed look batik flannel.

this was pretty mindless sewing...but will make a cozy lap quilt with Minkee on the back. Now I HAVE to spend tomorrow doing some grocery shopping and house cleaning! That stuff goes to pot when I get focused on my projects.

So glad you've accounted for yourself. We were wondering if you'd been iced in or what. I was actually going to venture out in the bitter cold and do grocery, drug store and banking tomorrow. It's a legal holiday here so the banks will be closed. Ah me. Bless my little heart. Guess I'll have to wait until Tuesday. Kathyl, there's bound to be a good reason why we can't clean the house either. We'll think of something. Good to hear from you, Polly

Actually it's been so cold that hiding out in my sewing room was about the only welcome activity. It was about -10 when I got up this morning. However, my studio is in the basement which is cooler (ha!) than the rest of the house, so I had to sew fast and furious to stay warm! :-) I was even looking forward to pressing seams so I could be near the iron! I volunteered to host my small group on Wednesday....that's one way to force myself to get a few of my rooms cleaned up a bit!

I love the leaf quilt.....lucky person who gets it. I have the BQ2 pattern but haven't made it up yet. Want to use it to make up a sampler quilt.

So glad you had time to 'play', and the inclination to do so. That leaf quilt is really lovely; and, as you say, the planned backing is gorgeous. .

KJ,

You picked some wonderful colors. Really nice, can't wait to see the finished quilt!

Wow! Wow! Wow! I like your BQ2 quilt, but that leaf quilt is just fantastic! Wow! It's a gift, huh? Dare I hope? ;)

So sorry Sandy. The recipient is my soon to be new daughter-in-law who graduated with her Master's degree in forestry and just got her first professional job in New York City. But it was a good try!

Kathyl, your quilts are awesome- as always! I LOVE the leaf quilt- what lovely colors and beautiful, graceful shapes. But your DIL- some how forestry and New York City don't quite add up for me??? VBG

I know! But there are parks and public lands in NYC that need to be planted and supervised. Mayor Bloomberg just implemented a million tree campaign for the next four years. He hopes to make NYC green by planting a million trees. DIL will be doing the implementing of that...supervising landscaping contractors who plant, picking out the appropriate trees and watching for diseases. You just never know when and where opportunities will happen!

LOL! It never hurts to try! ;) It really is a gorgeous piece -- I'm sure it will be even more so when quilted. Your DIL-to-be is a lucky girl; I just know she'll love it. :D

LOL That makes perfect sense, but when a gal thinks 'forestry' your mind will always go right to thoughts of Yosemite, the Rocky Mountains or the sequoias!

The quilts are great! And I just LOVE that backing fabric!
