I could be out there with a blowtorch, that stuff won't light. We had five inches of rain on Friday, and it's been drizzling on and off ever since. (Except for when it's snowing)

Our lawns get a little brown and dry in August, but only in the really sunny areas, and the ground stays pretty moist. We rarely get grass or forest fires, except when some stupid fool ignites a salt marsh. It's not like my friend in Los Alamos, NM; who has been evacuated from his home several times. (No losses, though, Thank God)

yep. it wouldn't burn right now for anything. now, if it was JULY and high, it would. right now, it's just getting started. and it rained a few days ago. i couldn't get the mower through it right now if i had to. hopefully, but this weekend it will be dry enough.

Sooz, that's a CA complex. I had it too, before I spent so much time in the midwest. There are parts of the country where things stay green from spring until fall. You couldn't set 'em of fire with a gallon of gas. And this is still spring. It could be two feet tall and it wouldn't matter fire-wise! Barbara Dream Master

to be fair, in a couple of months, if it was taller, it would probably be a fire hazard, because it would have turned brown. and i would probably have the local volunteer fire department asking me to cut it because i do live in the middle of a forest and in CA. it's just that in this particular case, the height of the grass is an optical illusion created by my camera and the hill behind the house. in not wanting to startle the deer, i hurried.

thanks, Barbara!
