Re: Oh. So THAT'S why../migraines

my migraines have a preceding aura before the pain kicks in,

It's a visual aura. Imagining looking through a glittering snow globe and

you'll get an idea of what I'm seeing when a migraine is coming on. >... Usually no headache (knock on wood), especially if I take something

for pain as soon as the aura starts.

...Luckily, I don't get the sight/sound migraines, I get dizzy/naseaus ones,

and if need be, I *can* work through it, but am not worth a darn!

Although I do get the headache portion of migraines, at least half the time I get the "aura" thingie without the following pain. The auras I see, are something like the "heat waves" that rise off hot rocks, blacktop, etc. Usually, they are accompanied by an "almost" nausea, that pulses-- and always accompanied by a pulsing nausea if they do progress to the headache. I think the nausea is the worst part of it all-- I hate being nauseated... I'd rather deal with pain. Even without the actual headache, it's hard to function-- I feel "fragile"-- like any second I WILL have the headache and/or nausea; noises and light bother me a LOT during these periods. Oh ack!!!! I used to get migraines. For some reason, since I had my kids, I've never had a full-blown one again, though I got my old "aura" three times in the last few years. But only the aura, no pain. (Please, if you must throw something, make it beads). When I DID have the whole deal, my aura was getting shimmers then going black on one side of my vision...in both eyes. So the right field (usually right) sparkled then went dark. And usually I got slammed in the left side of my head a few minutes later. Sometimes the outsides of my fingers (mostly pinky and ring finger) would go numb, too. Yuck. I guess my change is something hormonal. I got most of the just-aura's when I tried to go back on the Pill after DS was born. A few months ago I had two in two weeks, but again no pain. My doc thinks I may be heading into menopause and it's hormone fluctuations. As long as it doesn't hurt, I'm not arguing.

for those who get migraines and don't know why, watch your consumption of bananas and onions. Particularly bananas. I haven't had a full-blown migraine in over a year. Ever since I stopped eating bananas. A friend told me that they gave them to her. So I tried cutting them out. I love them, but I can live without them! Barbara Dream Master
