Re: OT: Headaches!

Hi guys,

> >I hate to rant, but I'm sick and tired of headaches. It seems they rule my >life. Now that my occipital headaches are reduced by botox, I'm now having >migraines! This is the third one this week. The only reason I can type is >because I'm drugged out of my mind! What kind of life is this? Ugh! > >Anyone else with chronic pain want to jump in? I don't want to feel alone. > >I just wish I could take my head off at times like this. I'm tired of the >pain and I'm tired of the doctors. > >Starlia

I can soooo relate! I *just* took yet another pain pill for my TMJ, which can cause worse headaches than I ever imagined were possible. You can't function with the headache, and you can't function with the pain medicine, either. But hopefully, if you take the drugs long enough, you get the situation under control and don't have to take them for a while. Doctors? HA! The only one that belives I have a legitimate condition is my dentist, who is also the doctor who diagnosed me. I love my dentist; he actually belives me when I say that I'm hurting - what a novel concept! I completely understand about wanting to just take your head off - the pain gets so bad, you want nothing but to escape it and can't. Don't feel alone; believe me, you aren't!!!

I have read that botox sometimes causes migraines, also that it sometimes relieves them.

As for headaches in general--how is your bowel functioning? You should be moving things out every day, or toxins build up. Also drink 8-10 glasses of water every day--everybody knows these two things, but statistically many headaches are caused by toxin buildup in the bowel and dehydration. At least its a place to start!! Sarajane

Alaska is extremely dry. People who need drier weather than you get in Arizona come to Alaska in the winter! And most people in Alaska have at least slight dehydration because of it. The rest of Americans aren't a whole lot better. Water DOES help for headaches. If I have headaches a couple nights in a row, I increase my water intake and they go away.

Have you guys ever heard of FlyLady.net? I tried it for awhile after the birth of my son, and when I came down with my auto-immune thyroid disease and my house fell apart. It worked, but it sends out tons of mail. I haven't done it in a long time but learned enough good tricks from her that if need be, I can usually get my house presentable within an hour... 'course some weeks are better than others so it's not fool proof. Pretty much it's about making housework manageable - doing it in little chunks so you don't get burned out from it... and making habits that help keep things manageable.

Amen. I had a housekeeper before we moved to Austin. She was the best. She did everything for us, include clean out the fridge, iron clothes, everything! God I miss her. She was my MIL's full time person and she did out house part time. I don't know if I'll ever find anyone who I can trust like her again. If I could, I think I would take out an extra mortgage just to have them around.

Yes, morphine. See Starlia now, almost nice. See the wicked witch's worst nightmare on morphine! I'm horrible. They wanted me to go back on it - NOT.

it works most of the time, except when i'm stuck in bed, then the house falls apart...dh's and dd's doing, unfortunately. They're um...messy. I'm not the neatest person in the world, but at least i pick up after myself when i can. Motivated Moms is less pressure, which is why I like it more.

Starlia, I'd been living with chronic back pain for too long. I've been going to the physio for about 3 weeks now. Maybe you should have a physiotherapist check out your back. My bad back caused headaches and since treatment, have stopped completely. It's worth a shot.

Jalynne, I live the same way you do. Three weeks of comparative normality. One to one and a half weeks of sheer hell. The gynocologist told me that my periods are not normal (well, I just thought it was normal for me, it's how I've lived my whole life). No apparent cause; no endo, no fibroids or cysts, just a badly behaving uterus. "Uteruses Behaving Badly" ... sounds like the title of a sit-com! There are treatments. I'm going to try some because I'm tired of trying to cram everything I need to do into the good weeks to compensate for the bad.

God Almighty Sooz. I can't comprehend the amount of courage it must take you to get through a day.

Marisa, i sure hope you find the treatments you need! I'm looking forward to feeling better in a few months, after the hysterectomy. I'm gonna pamper myself for at least

8 weeks, hire a maid...do practically nothing but what i "want" to do. I'm due, and I deserve it, DANG IT. Oh, yeah, and DH is treating me to Disneyland next summer....i'm so spoiled.

habits that help keep things manageable.<

Yeah, I quit the mail because it was unbelievable, but I have tried to keep up on some of the things (like starting out every day with a clean sink and a made bed), and I still do the "fling boogey" every chance I get!! She really does have some practical tips worth using, that's for sure!

I'm trying a Mirena coil first, hysterectomy is a last resort. I couldn't take major surgery again so soon after I shattered my ankle! However I wouldn't rule it out given how bad I've felt the last year or so. If it gets any worse and if the coil doesn't help, I would consider the op.

I like your plan, I think I'll hire a maid too....who needs the excuse of major surgery!! ;)

Especially since my Depression, I've been very aware of the dangers of going past tired. I don't have big problems. I won't crash my car, but I'll ding it. I won't step in front of a car, but it'll twist my ankle on a rough bit of ground for no reason.

For me, and for most people, the price of doing "every thing I need to do", or too much, is far too high.

Have you had children, specifically by caesarean? I had similar problems, but they couldn't find any fibroids, endometreosis or any of the more more serious things, but I felt like I had a knife sticking in my lower belly constantly, and the pain became agonizing when I had my periods. My doctor told me that a hysterectomy was optional, but I couldn't endure it any longer. Finally when I had surgery, he found that I had endometreosis OUTSIDE the uterus, plus scar tissue from the 2 c-sections, plus totally encysted ovaries. NO WONDER I WAS IN PAIN. But see, nothing showed up on the tests. Anyhow, the hysterectomy took care of that, but I guess because I had so many cuts inside, it took 3 or 4 years for me to totally heal (instead of the 6-8 weeks they predicted), and of course, you go thru instant menopause. Still I wish I had done it earlier, and not gone thru all those years of suffering.

Uh, how do you make a bed??? hahahahahaha And what's the use anyhow... you just gotta mess it back up at night.... When company comes over, just shut the door. What are they doing looking at your bedroom anyway? LOL

Now see, I don't understand that. I had to make my bed every morning as soon as I got up, as a child. I did it for years after I left home. Now I don't bother. I mean, why waste all that energy on something I will undo in a few hours. I pull the covers up so that the critters don't leave pet hair on the sheets and let it go. Nobody's going into my bedroom anyway. Clean sinks I can understand, but making beds... why? Barbara Dream Master
