easy labor & delivery. I'm a wimp when it comes to pain, so I can use all the help I can get.<

They're headed your way!! And just remember to stay focused on your breathing. Don't let anything or anybody distract you from it!

Of course. May you both be healthy, and the little one be slippery and his/her birth painless! Fast and slippery, that's my motto! (for labor, anyway)

Coincidence Report: Today I had a cardiologist appointment, and discovered that she is pregnant. With twins. The physician's assistant came in to show the doc some pictures of the PA's sister, the week before she delivered twins. The poor woman was enormous, and wouldn't have ever been able to get her arms around her stomach, and how she slept or moved was beyond me.

The cardiologist looked at the photo, horrified. The oblivious PA then said, "Oh yeah, and she had the babies naturally. One was eight lbs, 12 oz; and the other was 7 lbs, 15 oz.!"

Looking at my cardiologist's pale face, I turned to the PA, "Why on Earth did you tell her that, and show her that horrible photo? Everyone has a different experience, and it's obvious that your sister was highly unusual. "

The PA left, and I put my arm around my doc. "Look out there in the waiting room at the young woman with the cell phone. That's my daughter, and the light of my life. I had an absolute horror of a labor, and look what I got: the best daughter that ever was." DD saw us through the window and waved.

The doc asked how my labor affected me, and I answered honestly. "The first few days really suck, and to make sure you have someone to care for both you, the babies, and her older child a three year old toddler. Take your time going back to work, and don't listen to any of this crap that people feel that they need to tell you about childbirth stories. Your delivery will be yours, unique, and can go anywhere from "movie of the week" scary to "Lamaze class training movie" amazing. But as long as you all get home healthy and whole, that's all that matters.. Everyone else can stick it."

Oh yeah, I suggested that she take all the time she needs. "It's going to take a long time to get into the rhythm of caring for three little children, especially while recovering from birth. God knows, work will be waiting for you, whenever you get there."

So my cardiologist appointment turned out to be mostly a pick-me-up for my frightened cardiologist. Only "Kathy Related" things were to make sure that I do not take nitroglycerin, since my blood pressure is running scarily low:

80/55. I'll be working with her partner for a few months until she's back from leave.

Paulette, Don't be afraid to ask for some pain relief if you need it. Doctors are much better about giving it than 20 years ago when I gave birth - they expected you to come in, grit and drop the baby on the bed. Not being an earthmother, that did not work for me. Demerol did help, though. Patti

During the inital stages of labour if you have the opportunity for a hot deep bath, take it! It really helps heaps with pain during contractions. Just remember to keep drinking lots of water.

Congrats Paulette! I wish you a safe and relatively pain free delivery. And please post pics of the baby when you feel you can!

I second this... and a hot shower with the water aimed at your lower back may help, as well. Juice is good to keep your energy up, if you have a long labor... but try to avoid orange and cranberry juice, because if you throw up they kinda burn. (voice of experience... yuck!)
