Yes! Maybe peyote around the roots as you would a fang.

All the RCB vibes worked again!

The horrid tooth is out of my mouth, and it was over and done with in less than a second. No pain, just a little soreness now.

Thanks for all the good wishes! It worked!

Well geez I didn't even get to send any!

Glad that I went well and the painful tooth is history,

So - did you keep the tooth???

Great! I'd rather have a tooth pulled than have a root canal any day.

But of course! I;ve got to soak it in peroxide but then it shall be beaded as a reminder to GO TO THE DENTIST REGULARLY!

Actually, the tooth was fine. My gums are bad and I developed an infection that destroyed a lot of the bone mass around the tooth, making it loose. The x-ray showed it floating in a sea of infection. The doc actually wanted to do a bone graft as soon as the tooth was out but my pitiful finances didn't allow that. Besides, it's not like another tooth is ever going to grow there again.

Because of the infection, he had to double the novocaine so I wouldn't feel him pulling the tooth. Believe it or not, my lower lip is STILL numb!

It is possible to have a replacement tooth implanted at a later time if the jaw bone is healthy enough to receive it. He may have wanted to let you keep that option open.

Damn, but I wish health care (including dental care) wasn't so job and income related, and that people weren't held hostage in bad work situations by their need for it. Or kept from having it by circumstances in which they have no real choice.

They never "take" with me - my body rejects them, (don't know if it's a lupus thing). I've had four root canals and wound up losing the tooth anyway.

Ack. I had a similar problem. After the infection was found they wanted to do 3 root canals- the root canal guy said it wouldn't work and referred me to an oral surgeon. He was going to do a bone graft. Once they started work he decided the bone graft wouldn't work either and pulled 2 of the 3 teeth (much cheaper and faster recovery). The remaining tooth I did have a complete root canal done on.

Now a question- did you know you had an infection? I apparently had mine for a long time and didn't know it- no pain or anything. The only thing I ever noticed was a small spot that would develop on my gum- looked like an ulcer but it never hurt.

Glad you are doing better. have fun beading the tooth!

Had you been going for regular dental checkups? If so, how come the dentist/hygenist didn't notice before things got so bad? I have to go for checkups three times a year because my medications make me more susceptable to gum disease. Fortunately, I am totally nuts about keeping my teeth clean and haven't yet had any problems.

Same here. Having a tooth pulled is no fun.

I had no clue til the last week that it was an infection. My gums are bad anyway, and I was brushing my gums twice a day and the tooth, for a while, seemed to be less loose. It was just the past week that when I wiggled the tooth, hoping it would come out, that I could taste more than blood.

Anyway, I got past teh first 24 hours after and no dry socket. Ate lunch and feel great! Not only that, the dentist (his name is Dr. Nudelberg but I've renamed him Nudelbuns - you can guess why) called last night to see how I was, and gave me his cell phone # to call anytime I have a question. I love this man. I *will* be going back for all my dental woes as soons as the car is paid for (.605 payments left - yes, that is less than 1 payment). He is truly a painless dentist and I usually have terrific pain just from the novocain needle - didn't feel a thing this time.

He lied to me, though, but in a good way. Once I was numb, he told me he was going to go in and touch the tooth to see just how loose it was. This after warning me that because of the infection, the novocaine wouldn't numb me completely and I'd still feel him pull the tooth, though not at 100% pain level. His exact words were, "I'm just going to go in and touch it to see how loose it is it's out," said just like that and it was over before he finished his sentence. Never felt a thing, not even pressure. He's great.

Have to give it a good soak in peroxide (due to my having had Hep B years ago). I'll be sure to post a pic of the finished toofers for the non-squeamish here.
