Standard Bracelet Sizes.

I have a question that might have been asked before, but I can't remember if it has, so I will ask it again.

What is the "standard" bracelet size? I need to know, because I have been commisioned to make 2 bracelets for a lady at my husbands work for her two grandson's girlfriends. She isn't sure of their bracelet sizes. She says they are fairly tiny girls (size wise). She thinks they might wear the standard size. I am not sure on what exactly the standard size is. I think it is a 6 to a 6 1/2 but I am not sure, so could someone please point me in the right direction for standard sizes?

Oh no - not that small. I wear a 6¼" to 6½" bracelet and that's small. I can never buy costume jewelry bracelets because they fall off of me. I would think something about 7" to 7½" would be standard.

Funny you should post this. I've agreed to donate two bracelets for silent auctions in the next couple of months. Because commissioned pieces aren't the way to go, I was just going to guess what was an average size wrist. I'm curious what kind of responses you get. :-)

I believe that 7" to 7 1/2" is considered standard. Note that if you are using large beads (say, 10mm or more), you will need to add extra length because the width of the beads will take up some of the internal area. There's a tip about this which gives the formula buried somewhere in the Rio Grande catalog, but I'm feeling too lazy to go look it up.

You really need to know the size of their wrists. I have a very small wrist and my husband has a large one for a man. Size 7 is average for women and 7

1/2 to 8 for men. Roxan "Marissa Undercofler" wrote in message news:l5lIb.9003$ snipped-for-privacy@news1.news.adelphia.net...

If money were not an object, 2 toggle loops would be the way to go, so you can make it adjustable and still use toggles.

I usually make a bracelet about 6 1/2 inches. If I'm not sure of the size I put

1+inch chain extender on it and use a hook clasp. You can also hang a dangle from the end of the chain and the loop on that adds length too. HTH!

I usually make the bracelets 7 - 7 1/2". However that's always too big for my wrist. If I can, I use a two toggle system so they can chose how tight they need to wear them.

I've got a very thin bone structure, with tiny wrists, and I wear bracelets at about 5 inches. Most bracelets that I have gotten are 7 inches, though, so I would think that is the standard.

I believe 7 inches is average. I have a 6" wrist, and the shop that I am putting items in, that seems to be a good size, 6-7", but then again, it's a "fem-boutique" aimed at like 15-25years old.

I would say if you are aiming towards that age, then maybe 6 1/2". If you are aiming for an "older" crowd, then perhaps the 7 - 7 1/2" range. But also don't forget the plus size range of about 8". Just don't assume larger size means larger wrist, I am 225lbs, and 6" wrist.

meant to mention, I was doing items around 7", and she is asking me to make a few smaller.

"Standard" is one of those words that drives me crazy. If someone asked you what shoe size you wear, and you looked them in the eye and replied "standard", how do you think they would react? LOL... I might have to try that sometime just for fun!

I think 6-7 inches is average, but the odds that any given person will fall outside the realm of "average" are pretty high! So, I'd probably make them for 6 inch wrists, but with about an inch of dangling jump ring chain with a little charm on the end, so they're adjustable.

My response to that would be, "Oh, 7 1/2".

"Standard" in this context means "the size you should make it if you want to maximize the chances of J. Random Purchaser being able to wear it." IOW, what is called in statistics class the "mode" -- the number which occurs most frequently in the sample. If the sample is "female American wrist sizes", the mode appears to be 7 - 7.5 inches.

This is why I don't make sized bracelets for donations. I either use memory wire or I just go ahead and make a necklace.
