Me again! After looking at them several times I can't help but notice the one on the left appears to be a lighting bolt and if worn as a pendant would direct the power to the heart. Very power design! Harry

My feelings exactly. Thank you for finding the words. I am so sick of seeing a piece of shell on just a string that they sell for $25.00 or more. I love the item she made with the wire wrapping. It's wonderful. Harry

Harry, trust me - wire wrapping is probably THE most frustrating thing i've tried to learn!!

however, if it IS something you want to learn, subscribe to: Wire Artist Jeweller Magazine at

Holes, Harry. You need to learn to do holes. Becki "In between the moon and you, the angels have a better view of the crumbling difference between wrong and right." -- Counting Crows

I am going to attemp mutiple answers and question with this one post! LOL

  1. How do you even begin to do wire wrapping?
  2. About the holes. I can drill holes, but I have no idea what size or where to put them.
  3. If I drill the hole in the wrong side of the shell... will anyone be upset? :) Other than me? lol
  4. What would you, (anyone), conside a perfect sized shell for: Earring, Pendant, Bracelet, Anklet drops?
  5. Is this alot to ask?
  6. Does people prefer free form over cut sizes? Shapes? Round? brain went blank...
  7. What the best judgement to use as weather a piece of shell should be drilled or wrapped?
  8. I have tumbled some sea beach glass that is lead crystal I beileve... how would I drill a hole in some of the pieces?
  9. What size and type of bit would I have to use? Some of the glass pieces are thick and big. Thanks Harry

LOL... This is wierd... my wife sent some shell pieces to her mother and she won't take them out of the bag or let anyone touch them. LOL She said they are hers and they stay in the bag! Honest!

**LOL** well, i always want to "make things", but i can understand her not wanting anything to happen to them. when i first saw them, i was afraid they might be too fragile for the wire wrap - but they weren't!

When I first started in Paua shells I was afraid to tumble them. I even wrote a guy and ask how to, because I was afraid I would end up with shell dust. lol They are very durable and strong... if not tumbled to thin. :) Found that out the hard way... but I do like glitter also. LOL

i can't even come CLOSE to answering them all, Harry, but i'll start:

]1. How do you even begin to do wire wrapping?

check out the WAJ site.

]2. About the holes. I can drill holes, but I have no idea what size or where to put them.

as small as possible but still get thread or wire through. about 1mm.

]3. If I drill the hole in the wrong side of the shell... will anyone be upset? :) Other than me? lol

nope!

]4. What would you, (anyone), conside a perfect sized shell for: Earring, Pendant, Bracelet, Anklet drops?

earrings - 1.5" or less pendant - ANY size. i'll work with it! bracelet - can they handle the rougher treatment? as bracelet charms, probably 1.5" or less. now, if they had TWO holes . . . they could be set in just like a bead . . . anklet drops - i doubt if i would use. HOWEVER, if they were less than 0.5" and had two holes, that opens up all kinds of possibilities.

]5. Is this alot to ask?

never!

]6. Does people prefer free form over cut sizes? Shapes? Round? brain went blank...

the free form are easier to wire wrap. but i'm loving the round ones, too. there will be a use for any shape!

]7. What the best judgement to use as weather a piece of shell should be drilled or wrapped?

they will see either way. what you don't want to do is break them. so they have to stand the stress of the drill. make sure the hole is in far enough from the edge - at least on the larger ones - so they can handle the treatment - if that makes sense.

]8. I have tumbled some sea beach glass that is lead crystal I beileve... how would I drill a hole in some of the pieces? ]9. What size and type of bit would I have to use? Some of the glass pieces are thick and big.

those are ones i can't answer yet!!!
