filing jagged beads

I want to make a necklace using bugles and am afraid they will cut the thread....any special hints besides filing? Special thread or better quality bugles???? Thanks....Sharon in SW Ontario Canada

Two ways: use a seed bead at either end of the bugle (in the same stitch), so that the line rests against the seed bead instead of the bugle, and/or use Japanese bugle beads. I use Miyuki or Toho bugle beads and have had no problems.

If you already have the bugle beads, the seed bead idea is your best bet.

What would you use to file the edges?

I buy cheap emery boards from American Science and Surplus (sciplus.com) to use for projects such as this.
