Why Nymo??

Can someone here tell me the pros and cons on this thread. The size I bought is 0 Also, what do you use to string eyeglass holders? So far I'm just using seed beads and bugles but I'd like to branch out.

I saw the thread about eyeglass leash ends. I went to a bead store in Toronto Monday and they sold the ordinary ones for 95 cents a pair. I then went down to Spadina, where there are a lot of storefront wholesalers and bought eyeglass strings for 1.50 a DOZEN. Then just cut off the strings. This wouldn't work for the lady who has allergies, but most people could use them.

Pros: Comes in great colors and was a vast improvement over sewing thread, which was the main option before Nymo came along. Doesn't rot over time like a natural fiber.

Cons: Stretches, a lot. Not exceptionally strong. I find it tangles. I've supplanted it entirely with PowerPro or one of the other Spectra lines.

I use either a Spectra line or beading wire. For an eyeglass leash, where drape and flexability aren't all that critical, I use Acculon 7 strand, because I have some kicking around. If I didn't have wire around to use up, I'd use my usual SoftFlex and crimp beads.

I use large seed beads (6/0s) and a couple of large accent beads per leash. Nothing too heavy, though. Those Peruvian ceramic animal beads make very cute leashes, and people seem to love them.

Great idea. BTW, where is the bead store in Toronto? I lived there on weekdays for a year, and never did see one. The shoe museum is fab, though.

I was wondering if I could use one of the heavier weight elastic threads, like 2.0 mm Stretch Magic, and a couple of crimp beads to make my own findings. I think I'll experiment and find out. I don't have anyone with allergies, but it's worth the mental exercise.

I like your What If attitude. I keep seeing pony tail elastics in my minds eye ...would those work? Im not familiar with eyeglass leashes by name, but those elastic loops that go over the earpiece look similar to the medium sized elastics that are sold for pony tails. Diana

Someone on About:Jewelrymaking bought O-rings from the hardware store and coiled her own wire around the middle, leaving loops at both ends.
