Can someone explain this to me?

I was searching half.com for bead books because I was hoping to find that Crystal Lace book, even though I don't need it, but if I came across it for $5 rather than $40..............

Anyway, here's the link:

Wow - is it out of print?

Nope, but there's always someone who doesn't shop around that might fall for that sort of price!

I bought one for us last year for £35, brand new from play.com in the UK, and that included postage, and it weighs a ton!

WOW ME TOO! I could use the cash!

and yes - the HARD BACK edition is out of print. I believe you can get a soft cover "abridged" version.

Somehow I would guess this is a case of a typo. Having done this same thing before myself, I would hazard a guess that the seller intended to mark it as $19.98, not $199.98.

Maybe they will get lucky and someone will buy it for that price!

I'm going to guess that it isn't a typo, and that someone has decided that since the book is out of print and is a valuable beader's reference, (s)he is checking to see what the market will bear. List price on that book was $75, IIRC (for the unabridged hardcover.} It was worth every penny

If someone priced an out of print book that originally cost $10 at

25, would he be wrong? This is exactly the same thing, on a larger scale. I laughed when I saw the ad, because there's no way I'd part with my copy for only $200. (not kidding in the least)

There is a glass book that goes for a nice price like this - "Studio Glassmaking " by Flavell - it was one of the early instruction books during the "glass movement" - published in 74 - I've seen copies go as high as $125 two years ago - but after that people dredged them out of their closets...!!! LOL - and made more are available. Albris had ZERO available for almost a year - now they have three copies (online) ranging from $69 (library stamped copy) to $95 (bound upside down in the covers!) for used copies.

I have mine for sale -- I'm trying to thin out my library ....
