Quilt tops for sale

Hi everyone, I've got a few quilt tops that I guess I'll never get around to quilting-so I figured I'd put them up for sale. If I can sell them someone who loves to quilt will get to baste them and quilt them and these tops will get finished - finally. I've got too many commission quilts to work on right now and would love to see these tops finished, even if its a picture. So If anyone is interested I have posted the pictures at

They're pretty. But it seems so counter-productive to everything that quilting is about (for me anyway). Quilting is about creating, and hopefully leaving a piece of yourself behind. Spending all that time quilting a top that someone else made seems kind of like frosting somebody else's cake. (Just my most humble opinion) Sherry

Don't tell that to the professional quilters (both hand and machine) in our midst :)

Some of us make tops and have someone else quilt them, some of us quilt the tops that others make, and some of us quilt our own tops. We're all quilters.

the real problem for me with this sender's post (songbud's ONLY post that I could find when searching) was that it does not belong here. It is clearly an attempt to sell merchandise (even though quilt related) and/or solicit customers to her sales website and belongs on another newsgroup. (marketplace something or other)

If a regular poster has on occassion found herself/himself with a tool, a book or bit of fabric they don't need -- they offer to swap or donate to fellow members.

Here... we don't sell stuff.

like frosting

Oh, yes. I've had my tops machine-quilted before, and have handquilted tops other people made. But it seems different when it's a top made by a friend, or family member than one that is bought over the internet from a stranger. Maybe I just place too much of an emotional attachment to quilting :-)

Kate, I wondered if that was the case with songbud's post, too... as I hadn't seen the poster's name before....but have been too busy to do any detective work. It reminded me of the Yahoo sewing machine groups I'm on where some folks join for the sole purpose promoting. The first post from them are comments like 'look at this great sewing machine deal' with a link that points to an ebay auction...(their own).

Howdy!

Several thousand professional quilters might disagree, Sherry.

My professional quilting does express my creativity & artistry, and indeed leaves a little bit of myself in someone else's life. ;-)

Ragmop/Sandy -- 'cuz I *like* to quilt

Of course it does. I did not mean to imply otherwise. But would you *buy* a top from a stranger to quilt for yourself? That was what I was thinking of when I replied.

Yes. I bought an antique top on an auction and quilted it myself. It was a very scrappy top, a lot of the pieces were feedsacks, and it was all-handpieced. I realize that that is different than buying a recently-made top and I don't think I would do that. I have unquilted tops that I made myself :)

Ooo. I would love to quilt a "find" like that! (But it's just as well I don't get lucky and find one--I have unquilted tops already also)

Hi all, sorry I wasn't trying to offend anyone, I guess I'm just getting desperate. You know the ufo syndrome? Too much that I "want" to do - but, wonder when I'll ever find the time. I have bought tops that others have pieced and quilted them. Because my favorite part is the quilting, it gives me a reason to watch a movie or just sit, I can tell myself I'm getting something done and being productive and work on my quilt. I have a quilt top from my great-grandmother, its all hand pieced with tiny triangles and my Mom wants me to quilt it, so one day I'll get around to that one. Anyway, I really just wanted to apologize, I only found this group recently. bye for now.

Speaking of buying quilts, yesterday's sale of quilts on QVC made me want to weep. (That, plus Creighton losing in the NCAA basketball tournament.)

When I think of the money and time I invest in a quilt, large or small, and then see those items for sale at THOSE prices, I just am in disbelief. I know it's keeping some 9 year old in Bangladesh employed etc., but I wonder what those quilts look like close up. From what little I saw, the quilting looks like 3 stitches per inch and uneven at that. But what do you want for $39.99? And they are quilts. Just better not throw them in the washer! :>

Enough of my rant for the day, joan
