Choker question

How does one finish off a choker. I have wires that had 1 loop and I closed the other end after I put on the beads. It doesn't look right with the loops exposed.....Thanks......Sharon in SW Ontario Canada

Do you mean, with memory wire?

If so, you can use half-drilled beads. There are metal ones sold as end-beads for memory wire, or you can get half-drilled gemstone beads designed to make earrings with.

"Wires with 1 loop" sounds like eyepins though...? Memory wire is sold as a plain coil of wire.

Ah right... I don't think I've seen memory sold with a loop already in one end. (Unless it's regular wire, and the idea is to bend the other end into a hook to "fasten" it. Is the wire "springy"? Also memory wire is a darker grey than regular silver wire.) If it's memory wire you could always snip the loop off with memory wire cutters (or regular hardware cutters at your own risk (like me, hehe)) and use half-drilled beads, which I think looks much nicer (the "spring" of the wire holding it in place).

Oh dear. Hope I'm not confusing you with my yabbering about stuff! LOL

You can get silver- and gold-toned memory wire as well.

I finish them off in small loops and I don't think they're unattractive. Sometimes I make little dangles with pretty beads on pins and attatch those to the loops.

One thing to note: at least in my experience, many adults don't like the feel of memory wire, especially more 'mature' adults; they find it makes a choking feeling. So I mostly do lower-end stuff on memory wire, aimed at kids.

I saw a ton of these memory wire necklaces when wandering around the mall yesterday. I bet your department stores have them too -- go see how they finished them!

A bugger to bend? That'll be memory wire! :) Yeah, my fave way to finish memory wire is to glue a half-drilled bead on each end of the wire. As I'm in the UK I'll let someone nearer to you suggest a source! Or Marisa's suggestion of hanging dangles from the loops is good.

I thought as I was writing that that there were probably other colours, but us poor beading-supply-deprived Brits don't get to see them...
