What is the best way of connecting leather cord.

I want to hang a large pendant on 5 lengths of 1mm leather cord. What is the best way to fasten the ends near to the clasp. The cords will be altogether and not spaced out. Thanks Shirley

I've seen certain fasteners in bead stores that are especially for leather..you put the ends of the cord into them and squish them, sort of like a giant crimp bead.

You can also use end cones... by wire wrapping cords together and running the wire through the cone, pulling the wrapped cords into it, then making a wrapped loop to attach clasp to.

Did that make any sense at all? (No? Well my only excuse is a head cold w/ brain cells that resemble slugs!!!) :)

Same idea as this...

I like that!

The method for ending the leather cord would be very secure. I made a necklace for my daughter on cord and glued ends on, but my ends were mostly decorative. (I used slipping knots for adjustable length.)

I like the toggle in your picture, too. I think I could make something similar from gold filled wire. I keep wishing for gold-filled toggles. (Yes, I know the "rolled gold" process makes it more complicated to make gold filled toggles. But if they can make other types of gold filled clasps, why not toggles.)

Nice necklaces. What length do you tend to make your necklaces? I seem to prefer 16 to 18 inches.

Yes those cone ends are very nice. We do not seem to have many only the plain shaped ones over here. I must have a google for some.

Dh and I were walking through the jewellery dept. in our biggest local shop. I clapped my eyes on a neck lace. It was a large round pendant which had turquoise coloured stones in. It was hung on 5 strands of round turquoise leather. I admired it and moved on. Dh liked it too. A few days later we looked at it again because I said I may treat myself. I asked for it to be taken out of its case. Only then did I realise that the hanger the pendant was on was very crude and really let the whole thing down. So I walked away without it. DH agreed with me.

When we got home, in the recess of my mind I thought I had bought a pendant something similar when I mat up with Bart in Amsterdam. After scrabbling through a few drawers I found it. So I have ordered some round leather cord and a hanger and just waiting to get it altogether to make it. I will post it on my website when I have finished it. Shirley

That one is about 22" I think, a bit longer than most I make. I usually plan as far as 'shorter' or 'longer' but, if I am not making to a specific length, often the necklace itself determines the finished length... if that makes sense!

You don't have to google far! I got those awesome cones from Nicole (blackcatbeads.com) and she has quite a few different designs and sizes. I have noticed that her silver findings are heavy and well made and a steal at the price!!! (No ad here, just giving info!) :)

woohoo! Can't wait to see!!!!

Sure do know what you mean. I don't like necklaces to swing out from my body; I like to keep them close to my neck where I can keep them under control. So I seldom make ones in "your" lengths. Thus, I don't get to let the necklaces dictate to me as much as I wish -- like I can do with sculpture.
