Finished my blue necklace

I have finished my blue necklace that I asked for advice for endings of the leather cord. Polly gave me the idea of the cones, however my cones were not large enough to go over all the ends. Then my eye alighted on the beaded beads that Vicki V sent me. Although they were not large enough it gave me the idea to make some sleeves using the same technique. Fitting a head pin in the centre of the cords leaving a good length of it sticking out the end of cords. Then I bound them tightly with fine wire. I made the sleeve and popped the cone over the head pin and finished of wit a loop.

Now I came to finding a hanger that would let me thread all four thongs through. I found some on ebay but not sure whether they would be large enough. Christmas post slowing things down so they had still not arrived.

I had a rummage through a bag of bits and pieces that I got at an antique fair. There was this orphan earring. So I fitted my pendant to the ear clip bit and slotted it over the cords. Result one necklace that looks great on, even Dh agrees it looks better than the one in the shop that I had hung my nose over.

Pictures are up on the beadwork page of my website. ( I still get a thrill when writing that) Link below. Shirley

What a great idea, Shirley. I expect to see the beaded 'Shirley cones' all over the place now.

I agree, the ends came out beautifully. Well, the entire necklace came out beautifully!

Great work, that looks really nice, Shirl!

I'm the same as you in that I see things I want in shops, then come home and build 'em way better and for way less money.

That's beatiful Shirley!! Great way to solve the problem of the cones being too short. And using an earring as a hanger was brilliant.
