I've had these beads for about 6 months - I've been going back and forth what to do with them and finally just strung them up in a simple classic necklace (vs. the seed bead art necklace I had in mind when I bought them).
What do you think - did I wimp out on doing something fab with them, or is this just right to show off how pretty they are?

That's what I was thinking - plus I don't think in this case simple = boring. At least that is what I'm hoping. I can see a couple of my girlfriends in it with their power suits - but all artsied out, they would never wear it - or only wear it once maybe.
I really like your second necklace - it does kind of make me wish I'd done something a little more elaborate after all ;)

simple never has to equal boring - ever. and your's doesn't. especially with all that silver! and my Jamie will ALWAYS go for the simple styles and wrinkle her nose at the "artsy/busy" ones.

I LOVE IT! It's so clean and geometric. Very much my style, and just the kind of thing I imagined being done with them. Thank you so much for sharing. I always liked that set a lot.
Ironically, I took an Opal Yellow focal with purple "flatties" on it out of the kiln this morning. It's been quite a while since I did one, so maybe I was connecting with your vibe?!

I am not sure what you were thinking of originally but I don't find this "simple" exactly... I find it has a very clean, modern look. I definately agree that it would go well either dressed up or down.

but then i'm that way about lampwork from a lot of people here. which is why i don't generally charge for "design-time" - only "construction-time". because i generally have an idea that has percolated around in my head when i sit down. many, many times, the beads make themselves and i wind up with something totally different as a finished product. they don't just talk to me - - they direct my fingers and scream sometimes.

Your second necklace reminds me that when I was showing my DDAZ flutter with its string of green fluorite and Swarovski (even simpler than your first necklace), about a third of the people who saw it wanted just the strand, another third liked both, and the rest didn't care about the strand but oohed and aahed about the flutter.

**grin** aren't people wonderful? the minute you think you have something figured out, six other opinions wander in. it's why i've given up trying to figure it out. like i said, so much of the time, the beads seem to know what they want, and i've given up trying to argue and just hope that eventually the right people find them.i've had the same thing happen - even Wednesday in a restaurant having lunch with a friend - who reacted one way, and the young waitress reacted the other. and i've decided it really is a good thing there is so much variation out there - even if it personally may drive me batty!

Oh good :) I'm glad you like. I guess that's what's bothering me - I had ideas for them, but they went on the necklace pretty much the way you sent them to me - I feel like I just made it longer ;)
Ha, maybe! Must have been all the fondeling and polishing I was doing to them - like rubbing the lamp and making the geni pop out ;)
Looking forward to seeing those hearts and shapes that you put in the kiln today too...
Oh I don't think I could ever charge for real design time either - some times it takes me weeks of thinking about something before it comes together. And you are right - so many times the beads just insist on doing it differently!
The thing that gets me is when I have an idea for something and I'm missing just one part of it - one color seed bead, the clasp, or some little something to set off the big somethings... it happens every time and then I have to go shopping. The more beads I have, the less I can do with them it seems sometimes!
I am so glad to hear you say that. I've been thinking that it was just me. I've had to buy two organizers (nut & bolt kind) at the hated store. Then I had to buy two more little organizers at my LBS. My collection is growing by leaps and bounds.
