BuzzXplore Install Problem - Legit copy fails; Cracked copy succeeds!

Here's a great one -- and hopefully someone can offer a suggestion.

I have a legal copy of BuzzXplore - purchased June last year. Installed on my desktop (at that time) with no problems.

I am going out of town and want to take my programs with me and have borrowed my husband's work laptop.

I was able to install all my programs, but one: BuzzXplore. I wrote to them, but haven't heard anything back. I may yet try again, but thought someone here might have an idea.

So what's happening?

I put the CD in the drive and run setup.exe without a hitch. After it's completed, it tells me about starting the program asap with the CD still in the drive ... and I do it. Only the program gets "hung" at that point and eventually dies.

I've tried doing it with and without rebooting -- all to no avail.

Out of sheer frustration I downloaded and installed the cracked version. Irritatingly enough, I had no problems with it's installation.

However, I would really like to have my own legit copy installed on the computer.

For what it's worth: Win98 on a Sony Vaio with 128mb RAM and loads of hard drive space available. (Oh, I even removed the installation of my virtual CD program in case it was causing a problem -- though it hadn't on my desktop.)

I'd move on in life - if it works; great. If you are using a cracked installation & have a purchased copy next to you, then that's great!

There could be many reasons why one works & why the other doesn't. Is the tech team at Buzz software prepared to work thru whatever those issues are for you, in a timely manner?

I guess it shouldn't be an issue -- except the cracked copy is an older version.

I think I've discovered the problem though. It may be a bad CD.

As for Buzz Tools, Inc: I have yet to hear a reply to my email.

Thanks for the comments.

I'm giving up. My last request I made through their online form and still no reply.

Talked with spouse and we're going with the cracked copy. Wish I didn't have to, but don't see any other option at this point.

Rhetorical question ... why a company that doesn't want it's software cracked and shared doesn't provide a reply for technical support. And this software was expensive! (for what it does).

Though, did learn one thing from this experience. For those of you who have external hard drives -- you may not be able to install your legit copy of BuzzXplore. It seems the security used gets hung up on this kind of hardware configuration. Don't know why, and at this point, don't care.
