help with embroidering on knit/lycra

First of all, I am new at embroidering, and I am having problems with what kind of stabilizers to use to keep it from rippling.

I have some knit that has some lycra in it and want to embroider on it. I have put two layers of stabilizer under it and am wondering if I need to put a water soluble on top to keep it from rippling. I am using a iron on and a cut away on the underneath.

Thanks for your help. Sandy

As the other answer stated use ballpoint needles on knits and sharps on wovens. This is a must! Next if you are embroidering on Lycra the best thing to do in the way of stabilizer is to use 2 layers of fusible polymesh attached to the garment and then a cutaway in the hoop. You can use 505 spray to adhere your garment to the cutaway. No hooping of the lycra is necessary. If you have a basting stitch in your library use that before you begin your embroidery. It will keep everything stable. You can find them on line for free. When the design is finished you can trim the fusible as close as you need to just like the cutaway. Hope this helps, Nana

Hi Sandy, Joann's carries some of it in the stabilizer section. It is the best stuff! What format are you using? You can find them on the

site in PES or ART format. They are a design by itself, so you can incorporate it in the entire stitchout. I know they are on other sites, but I can't remember which ones right now. They are just a single stitch line around the interior edge of the hoop. It doesn't interfere with any other design. Nana
