Newbie - Bernina Deco 600

Hi there,

I've been browsing through your old messages which do contain lots of useful advice, thank you!

After dressmaking and quilting, I fancy trying some mach embroidery - esp. the fact that you can get designs of the web or convert your own is very appealing to me. So, as my budget is restricted and I already have a sturdy sewing machine, I've been looking at embroidery only machines at Ebay (Germany). There's a lot of stuff around there, so here are my questions:

  • I lost a bid for a Brother PE 150. Now there's a Bernina Deco 600 out there, is it any good? I have had trouble finding documentation about it and my local dealer said they pretty much only sold the Artista.

  • I understand that apart from a machine, I need a card reader and some software to get the transition PC-machine. The Deco 600 comes with a Vikant box which is compatible with Embird, which many of you seem to use. Would that system allow me to do what I want (as above)? Inconveniences?

  • As a beginner, what accessories should I get? (Thread, stabilizer...)

Thank you so much for your advice. Susan in Switzerland
