Newbie Needs Guidance!

Hello there!

I'm new to this newsgroup, and very new to sewing!

I hope it's ok to dive in and ask some questions, but please if I make a mistake, let me know or point me to the group FAQ and I will gladly comply with the rules here!

I've just inheirited my aunt's old Elite machine and I wanted to make my dad one of those gorgeous Sea Tapestry quilts, but am confused as to where to begin...

The book by Ginny Eckley has all these cool techniques but I don't know where to start since she has these cool circular embroidery feet and I can't figure out where to buy them, and I can't even figure out how to get the machine to do the different stitches displayed on its front panel. I don't have a manual (argh!) and while I've written the manufacturer to see if they can get me one, I'm not holding my breath. I've stuck a picture of the machine on the web at

case anyone has this machine and can offer me some tips.. I'm so lost!Swiveling the knob that has the pictures of the various stitches doesnothing, so I don't know if I need a different type of needle or adifferent foot or if my machine is just broken in that area. Any tips you seasoned hands have to toss my way would be so vastly appreciated. All I can do is sew a straight line on this guy, and if that's all I can get out of it, so be it, but it sure would be fun to do some fancier stuff!

Again --hello! Hoping to join what seems to be a fun group of people!

Welcome to the group, and although I can not help you with the machine, I know where to find presser feet.

carries many kinds, including the circular ones. Since they are generic, they fit many machines. I use the same ones on a White, Singer & my Pfaff 7560, which does not have a dual feed. Not affiliated with N N, just a happy customer for many years. Emily

Looks like an old Kenmore (Sears) and if you have the width turned off then the different stitch knob will always sew in a straight line and appear to do nothing. Turn the width knob higher.

The picture isn't clear so I may way off base.
