Newbie needs some advice

The Mrs has just bought a Brother RL417 basic sewing machine.

Is there an on-line guide for the newbie that explains what all the stitches do and in what situation i use should certain stitches, for example when to use stitch one to hem something etc etc, sorry for such a newbie question I'm based in the UK by the way.

Much of that information, plus routine care and maintenance, will be in the manual which comes with the machine.

For basic sewing techniques, find a copy of Reader's Digest Complete Guide to Sewing.
