Gluing mirrors

Kinda off topic but what the hay. My car's rearview mirror fell off last week, the glue had let go. Picked up a vile off the funky specialty stuff and did the whole thing according to instructions. When I glued the bracket back on the windshield it squished around a bit and there was glue here and there on the windshield. After letting it dry I thought it'd be a chore cleaning up that mess. Got my scaper knife ready and all but waddaya know, I could wipe it off with tissue paper, no streaks even and the tissue paper wasn't even stuck all over or nothing. Murmers of amazement... Bart.

The specialized adhesive used to hold rearview mirrors is a anaerobic adhesive... That is, it cures in the absence of air (or oxygen). The primer you put on the windshield first also helps kick off the adhesive as well. If you leave the excess long enough, it will eventually set up anyway, but it usually takes weeks or more.
