Pyro ceramic or quartz glass

Jul 26, 2004 4 Replies

G'day all, I received an e-mail asking about a manufacturer of high temp glass, and after some Googling failed to find anyone that makes pyro ceramic or, possibly another option, Quartz glass. The temps specified in the inquiry were slightly more than 1000oC. This has aroused my curiosity. Does anyone know a company that makes Pyro C or Quartz glass ? I referred them to e-mail Pilkington Glass in the interim. Isn't it weird how, even though it normally doesn't concern you or your business, sometimes you just need to know ! TIA. Regards, Les

Pyroceram is a trade mark of Corning, probably now devolved to Newell. Several other firms make glass-ceramics, Schott being one example.

Quartz glass is better known as vitreous silica, and is produced by several organisations. Schott ought to be one source.

Thanks Terry, I referred the inquiry to Corning and Schott websites. Regards, Les

Other Quartz producing companies:

General Electric Sylvania Amerce

spell checker got me!

The last company is Amercil
