Unusual Zinc Came Profile

Greetings, All -

I've recently seen samples of a zinc border came that I'd like to use, but I have no idea where it came from, who manufactures it, etc. Instead of the usual "U" shape, this zinc has a profile best described as a "2" with an elongated (almost 1/2") tail. The intended purpose is to allow installation in the sandwich-type door inserts without displacing the inside and ouside frames and without applying undue pressure to the glass in the panel. I have some other ideas in mind, but I'll spare y'all that...for now.

Has anyone seen and/or used this stuff? Where can I order it?

Many thanks in advance for your feedback -

Steve

After re-reading your post, I think what you are looking for is called "Slider Y" came? The only place I've seen it on the shelf is at Jennifers Glassworks in Atlanta. It's 11/16" and made to fit SG Panels into aluminum slider sash with vinyl seals. I see no reason you couldn't put it into a wood sash or door. The "tail" is about 1/2", and the glass channel is 7/32" wide. Only thing is, the "tail" is centered, and not offset like you described.

1-800-241-3388, ask for Shannon in the warehouse. She can ship it to you. Dunno what the cost per stick is...I've never used it.

Chicago Metallic profile number 2259, 9/16" flat face , 5/32 heart /channel height, 3/16" depth for glass, looks like an 1/8" u edge with a flat piece attached, maybe the small letter "h" but of course it is extruded all one piece.

lets you have a flat piece of metal to slide under the edge molding while all glass sticks out into the viewable area.

Now you have to find a retailer that carries it!

Looks as if their page is unfinished, they mention outer bars ans show a couple of profiles, but not that one, and show no inner bars that I could find, but one might keep an eye and see if they change it.

Hi -

Since my original post, I've found a few "Y" shaped examples, but not the lowercase "h" profile, as javahut so accurately described it. Your leads will help a lot . Again, many thanks for the assist.

Depends on what's available. If you're dipping into personal stock, I have a simple little experiment I'd like to play with that requires only a yard or two. On the other hand, if you've found an outlet, I'd be willing to buy a couple dozen 6 footers (or split a case with you) immediately.

I'll get back to you after Christmas, this stuff is buried if I even saved what was left, if it is still there, it is in good shape, just need to see if it is still there.
