That will look nice as a cube. I'm still debating whether to do a cube with the "Think Snow" piece or a pin cushion or maybe just do a kind of ornament finish that can hang flat against the wall. I'm also still considering washing and ironing The Fan that I did for my friend. Does that count for two finishes in 2009?

Now I'm anxious to start my Laura Perrin Flying Geese project. I finally got it on the frame and now I need to make sure I have all the floss in place and then, one of these quieter days, I'll start it.

That's such a nice piece. Be really sure to check the chart - I've found a couple misplaced or lacking stitches on most of hers. Usually easy enough to figure out - when you look at what you're stitching, and then thing - hmmm- I think there should be a stitch here or similar.

Keep plugging. I finished another couple of sections yesterday, and was looking at it. I'm using silk lame in place of the accent color Hi-lights. It's definitely much heavier than the Hi-Lights, and really changes the look. Sort of pulls that color - which is fine. But, of course now I'm thinking of if I'm going to pull it and switch to plying down the Silk Lame. I went to this 'cause I couldn't really find a Hilights color that went to the accent color, or not. But, DH likes how it looks, so I may just leave it. Who knows. Will see how I like it when the outer sections are don't - it wouldn't take that much to redo just that in the 4 sections around the main big diamond. I think all our versions seen together will be really interesting.

I started it last night and so far I really didn't have to do too much with the chart. Once the pattern was established, it was pretty easy to follow. Of course all I did was the center box so I don't know what's in store for me. It doesn't look like this particular piece is going to be super hard, but needless to say those may just be in the category of "famous last words." We'll see.

Much to my chagrin I discovered that I didn't have the Overture thread called for in the pattern. I really thought I had it all put together, but I guess I screwed that one up royally. I was so annoyed with myself that I searched and found a skein of DMC variegated that was fairly close to the right colors and I used that. Now, of course, I need to adjust some of the other colors to match the DMC. What a fun way to start a project.

Glad you found a substitute. I usually swap Watercolours for Overture - for the texture. I'm sure the DMC variation will be lovely.

I've spent way too much time on the last couple of projects doing the color adjusting thing. Just remember - it's FUN.

The only Watercolors I had that might match was a started one and wouldn't have been enough. I think I need to buy some more floss now. Don't you agree?

Of course! In silk, cotton and rayon - so you can test them all to see what looks best!

Oh, yes. Especially since Laura doesn't usually tell you that you may (will) need more than 1 skein/card of some thread. Which is what we found out with the Amethyst Dreams.
