Article on Antique American Embroideries

The current September 2006 issue of Antiques Magazine features a wonderful article on antique American embroideries recently "discovered" in Philadelphia. In fact, the cover of the magazine features an eye catching color section of one of the antique embroideries.

The subject of these embroideries is the famous Tree of Life motif.......there are quite a few full color pics to illustrate the detailed description and history of the antique needleworks shown. Interesting to read how the stitchers did the needlework, what materials were used and their choice of colors.

One thing I love about such antique embroideries is the somewhat primitive style in the way florals, fauna and other types of motifs are depicted.....all are charmingly represented.
