Seeking advice on antique quilts

I have two quilts entirely sewn and quilted by hand. One was rescued from my grandmother-in-law who was throwing it out as an old blanket she didn't want anymore. It is a plain quilt, obviously made to be used, single 6" blocks of (probably) recycled cloth ...some are pieced... backed with a large muslin sack. This still has some faded printing on it which I believe was a 100 pound bag of corn meal. I can make out "Golden Eagle Brand" in a large circle and some other words. It has some patches that are mostly gone and the edging is pretty tattered. The other quilt is made of tiny inch, or maybe 2 inch blocks, (I don't have them at hand) in a center motif with a band of white and more colored blocks. It also has some wear but is in fairly good shape. I cannot remember where I got this one, but I don't think it's one my grandmother made. I had intended to make these old quilts into drapes for my studio but that was before I noticed that they were all hand done. I'd like to have an appraisal to see if they are worth more to me to sell or to continue with my plan to turn them into drapery. Can anyone suggest how I can go about finding out what my quilts might be worth? I live in the boonies so it would be great if I could so it via the internet with pictures. Thanks for any advice on the subject. Hazel

Hello Hazel, any good museum with a textile department can do that for you. Also the antique road show might help you, as well as any good auction house with a reputable name will do it as well. You may have to pay for this service, but I am not sure of that.

good luck with your historical adventure

We have a little museum about 40 miles from here and I believe I recently read something about them having access to a person who was doing something with their big collection of neglected textiles. I had forgotten about them. I'll call and see if I can get any information there. Thanks for the suggestion!
