Cleaning an old cotton and linen piece

An old piece that I did about 12 years ago was framed without glass (I know better now, but that was then) and has suffered.

I've removed the piece from the frame, but in addition to the standard dust you might expect, a bunch of the white cotton floss (DMC) has turned. The bad part is that not all of the floss turned yellow, only some. It's very distinctive where I used another piece of floss. You can easily see the difference. It might not be so bad if all of the white had turned yellow, but the contrast is horrible.

I've rinsed it in cold water and succeeded in getting the dust layer off, but the cotton floss is going to be another matter.

Thoughts? Should I dry clean?

If it matters, it's L&L's Angel of Hope, so while not a huge piece it is worth spending some time trying to salvage.

Thanks!

Well, I guess that your message was posted some time back, but in case you never found the answer you were looking for on how to clean your old piece of yellowed cloth artwork, go to

and order yourself a small bottloe of a product called "Restoration". I collect antique garments and have cleaned up items over 100 years old with this product, couldn't live without it. Just make sure not to use it on silk!
