Daylight Lamp

Someone posted on this NG not long ago about a "Daylight Lamp" that she liked and pointed out it was on sale. In desperate need of a good light with a magnifier I checked it out and knew I wanted it.

Later, DS called to say he was doing all his shopping on-line and I should send him a link to something I wanted.

So, the box arrived. In large letters on the outside of the box it said open and inspect within 48 hours. I did. This light is awesome

Thank to DS and the RCTN "someone".

A Christmas angel sent me a Daylight lamp with magnifier last winter. I was delighted. Unfortunately, my eyesight is deteriorating even more. But I enjoyed the lamp while it was working for me.

I agree, this light is awesome. DH gave me one for Christmas last year, and I don't know how I'd have been able to stitch or read without it.

Now you have had the eye surgery, do you find it easier to stitch?? It amazes me that I can see the holes with BOTH eyes now!! Except, I miscounted on the Wedding Gift, and have to frog some of it, ugh!!

Mine too, Dianne, but I`m hoping my optician refers me to the hospital next time I see him - the cataracts seem to be really taking over and John`s operations were such a success I can`t wait to have mine done!

I'm very aware of the difference in my perception of color. My eye is taking its own sweet time in healing -- it's a tiny bit blurry, and I have to get new glasses as soon as everything settles down. I'm using readers for stitching, and it seems to be working fine -- about the same as before. I'm hoping once everything stabilizes, it'll be even better -- I have begun to be able to see a difference in distance vision the past day or so.

It is admittedly very nice being able to stitch without that fuzzy cloud obscuring my vision!

How about you?

Doing great so far! I see the eye surgeon tomorrow for the one week check-up. I took the option at surgery to have a lens that enabled me to wear glasses for distance, and not for close-up. I was used to being near-sighted since I was a small child, and have always been able to read, stitch etc without glasses. Hoever the distance is even better now! I spend half the day searching for where I last left my glasses! I realise that three hours go by at home since I had them on; that is a real pleasure!

It is nice, isn't it? My lens is for distance, so most of the time I don't even wear my glasses for that, only the readers for stitching and reading. My distance vision wasn't all that bad anyway, and the surgery-ed eye is clearing up enough that I don't think I'll need correction for it.

I feel very fortunate to have done so well. It's interesting to close one eye, and then vice-versa, and see the color difference. It's almost a shame it'll be so long before I have to have the second one done.

Yup, I did the eye-closing thing. The one that wasn't fixed was ecru, and the other Blanc!! What is REALLY weird is that after the second surgery, the Blanc eye is not as bright as the old Ecru one, which is now B5200!!

Only stitchers could compare them this way!!!LOLOL

You wanna hear really weird? Ever since I was a kid (so I don't think it's cataracts), one eye saw the background of my bedroom wallpaper as Blanc and the other as 415.

But, oddly enough, I can walk into a store, pick up a blouse, and be absolutely positive that it's an exact match for the color in the print skirt at home in my closet.

I hear that! And your description is entirely apt. I was amazed at how different blues are from the way they looked before.

This may be straying from the main subject a bit, but since we are one the subject of eyesight....I have a question. Last week, while wrapping presents, I couldn't see out of my right eye clearly at all. Came on suddenly as if I had just been staring at the sun or something. I began seeing colored triangles in a arc pattern. If I closed my eyes it was still there. This lasted about a half hour before my sight come back and has been normal eversince. No headache at all, before or after. But during the episode, I really couldn't see properly.

Do you think it is stress? Or too much stitching and squinting? Think maybe an eye doctor appointment is in order. Just wondering if anyone has experienced this before.

I wonder if it could be a form of migraine. The first migraine I ever had started with visual disturbances.

I think I will call for an appointment. No I did not have a headache at all, cuz that was the first thing I thought of because my mom has them. No recent trauma. I cant remember the pattern of the papper because I have about 5 or 6 rolls and I rotate them. (wierd, I know) but no triangles, just santas, trees, etc.

But I never thought of retina troubles, thanks for the warning, I am going to call tomorrow. I just cannot lose my site. I have too much stash to finish ! LOL I'll report back.

Thanks again, Diane

I was going to say that because I get it. I can be looking at something like words on a page and suddenly I cannot not see the words. Then the jazzing starts around the blind portion. I have to wait until it works it way completely across the eye. It takes about half an hour. I can go months even years without it happening then get it several times in a few weeks.

I looked it up and I find they call it an eye migraine that sometimes is followed by the head ache.

Once I went to a pantomime and the bright jazzy striped clothe the actors were wearing seemed to trigger if off.

It seems to come when I get tired and stressed. Shirley

Those are very interesting sites. Thanks. Isn't it strange what the body can do to ya! I have never had this before, so I am wondering if it will happen again, like you say, maybe in a cluster of a few episodes in a few weeks time, then not again for quite a while.

What you are describing is called an ocular migraine. Some people experience pain with it, others (like myself) do not.

You should see an optometrist who is thorough (or an opthamologist). That *can* indicate a more serious condition. However, most of the time it is annoying, but harmless.
